Just want to open up a discussion about it first before I go to CT with it. For in-universe songs, currently the {{IU media}} template only has a field dedicated to "Performer," but not "Composer" or something similar. While editors generally put the respective composer(s) under the former field, it may lead others for potential misuse due to the confusion. Going forward, I'll definitely be putting out a CT to add the "Composer" field for clarity sake.

Now the point of this SH is to get a general sense of what to do with the "Performer" field. Should we remove it entirely with the introduction of the "Composer" field if the planned CT passes? Should we keep it for other musicians who may performed the same song? This is all so I can write up a cohesive CT around it. Looking forward to your response and feedback! • For context, this was brought up on Discord about a month ago, but I just remembered now lol. I personally would probably be against keeping the "performer" field, mainly bc of potential bloat. But if people do want to keep it, probably best to set a standard of it's usage, like professional performances (gig on a cantina, festival, concert, etc.) and not individuals who hummed songs casually. • Agreed. Imperators II(Talk) 13:17, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
  • Why not rename the performer field "artists"? Then we can specify composers/writers and performers as need be. OOM 224 14:12, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
    • Not a fan of combining the two fields since both serve very different roles in regard to the song itself. Especially considering the possibility of performers who might not have a direct connection to the original composer of the song. Just doesn't look right combining the two imo. • I'm curious how many in universe songs we actually know the composer vs performer. We don't have that information for any of the Outlaws songs. ThePedantry (talk) 16:09, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
    • Category:Songs by artist should give a good indicator. As for Outlaws, musicians attached to songs on the jukebox are fair assumption to say that they are the creator of said music, similar to Survivor. Also adding the the IU album that they released that helped ID'ed even more musicians. Bonzane10 Bonzane10-Sig 16:53, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
      • I guess I'm questioning whether composer is the best word choice. Because composer implies individuals or band that originally created the music. So I don't know if we can say that the IU bands in Survivor or Outlaws aren't performing covers of the songs. I agree that we should restrict it to not include people just humming it ect. Just wondering if there's a different word that composers 🤔- ThePedantry (talk) 07:00, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
        • That's fair.. It is tricky to decide what word fits best. Bonzane10 Bonzane10-Sig 12:02, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
  • Per Bonzane. Listing everyone who hums it under their breath isn't really infobox-worthy.—spookywillowwtalk 16:54, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
  • Definitely keep them separate, but also definitely keep the performers field and specify for actual professional performances/recordings. Hell, I'd even support an "album" field to list any albums the song is on. "Published in" just doesn't do the trick. This is of course the problem with having all forms of IU media in the same infobox. Master FredceriqueCommerce Guild(talk) (he/him) 17:06, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
  • After much thinking, the new field will most likely be named "Artists" since it's the most neutral and applicable to various types of musician rather than "Composers." Bonzane10 Bonzane10-Sig 13:54, 28 February 2025 (UTC)
    • I think artists works. ThePedantry (talk) 19:03, 1 March 2025 (UTC)
