The Situation
Alright, strap in, we've got a lot of ground to cover. With the officially licensed Destiny 2 x Star Wars collab expansion Renegades just two weeks out, I thought it would be nice to sort of iron down exactly how to cover it here on Wookieepedia. I've seen a pretty wide range of approaches to it, with some people having a fairly strong aversion to going into much detail, though I do think given the... uniqueness of the situation, we should try to find a way to comprehensively cover it without devolving into the Destiny wiki. I believe that is achievable, and I'll provide some potential options below, but I do just want to give some very basic context for those still unclear regarding the situation.
The Bungie video game Destiny 2 has had a couple small recent collabs with Lucasfilm to introduce some crossover cosmetics into the game, however, their upcoming large story expansion was also created in conjunction with Disney/Lucasfilm. This does NOT mean anything that's happening in Destiny 2 will be canon to the Star Wars universe, however, the story will be intentionally full of homages to the franchise that Bungie has stated inspired their universe in the first place. Many of the story beats will be lifted directly from the Star Wars films, mostly the original trilogy, with a war between an evil Empire building a super laser and a ragtag group of rebels making deals with the criminal underworld, all while two factions of laser sword-wielding wizards, one aligned to the light and one to the dark, engage in conflicts behind the scenes. There will be vehicles, locations, factions, characters, weapons, and armor all inspired by elements from Star Wars, with some being more 1:1 than others.
There's no real direct comparison regarding a collaboration of the scope, scale, and concept that I could find. The closest would be either something like Minecraft Star Wars: Path of the Jedi from a video game perspective, or maybe Star Wars: Visions from an adjacent universe storytelling perspective. Would probably help to keep those and our coverage of them in mind going forward.
So the three elements of coverage I believe we need to consider are story/references, items/appearances, and galleries/concept art:
Story/References
So this is the one I feel will be the hardest in regards to Renegades, and I can currently only think of 2 good approaches outside of just not covering them at all (which I personally don't feel is the right method, though I know others may not see the value):
1) We do a relatively brief synopsis of the campaign, as well as its associated dungeon and exotic mission, just as we would do detailing the story of any other SW video game, though in a way that doesn't go out of its way to give much context to the Destiny side of things or reference pre-Renegades events from Destiny 2, but instead is written to highlight all of the parallels between the expansion and established elements of the Star Wars universe. It would definitely be a challenge to tackle, and wouldn't avoid Destiny concepts completely, but could be a bit cheeky in pointing out how closely the story parallels the Star Wars saga narrative.
2) Instead of writing paragraphs, we do a list of bullets noting each specific parallel or reference. I don't know if there's any real precedence for it, I can only think of something like pages such as List of media that inspired Star Wars or maybe List of media that inspired Star Wars. Again, doesn't need to be a separate page, just something listed under a section on the Destiny 2 article in a sub-Renegades section. Maybe it could look something like that:
- The recurring Destiny 2 character known simply as "The Drifter," a rougish ex-smuggler, is captured by the galactic empire and frozen in a stasis slab, mirroring the Star Wars character Han Solo and his time frozen in carbonite.
- The Destiny 2 faction known as the "Praxic Order" is a group of religious zealots who adhered only to a paracausal force known as "the Light," and are revealed in Renegades to wield light swords dubbed "Praxic Blades," denouncing those who embrace "the Dark" such as their rivals, fallen guardians who referred to themselves as the "Dredgens," directly paralleling Star Wars' own Jedi Order and their conflict with the Sith.
If the homages are what they're going for, and the reason Lucasfilm is working with them, then I do think it's our duty to cover them in some capacity. Would just like to know the best means that keeps us in-scope, and if we can make special exceptions for the layout of the Destiny 2 page given the uniqueness of the collab.
Items/Appearances
This is the big one, and I sort of have four potential ideas, again barring just not listing them at all:
1) If we process with the parallel homage list thing above, then we could just include each in-game weapon, armor, ship, etc. that is a direct reference to something from the Star Wars universe and leave it at that.
2) Alternatively, would it be viable to put an "Appearances" section on the Destiny 2 page and just list out all of the armors and items and whatnot there in a manner such as:
- Stormtrooper armor (as "Shock Enforcer" armor ornament set)
- EE-3 carbine rifle (as "All or Nothing" pulse rifle)
3) Or, alongside maybe still implementing an appearances section, could or should we create non-canon (ncc specifically I guess until that separate situation gets sorted out) articles for all or some of the specific in-game items created for the collab. By my count there's something around 40ish SW-specific weapons, armor, and equipment from all 3 collabs (if you count armors/armor ornaments as sets instead of individual pieces). It's not something that would bloat the site too much, and there isn't not a precedent for it I suppose if you compare the expansion to something like an episode of Visions, but I could also understand why it might be a bit hard to justify. The intent would still be to put the focus on the Star Wars aspect of the item, and not so much how it relates to the Destiny universe outside of mainly BTS stuff regarding what sort of item it is or if it's like a class-specific set of armor.
4) Finally, instead of putting much priority on listing them on the actual Destiny 2 page (though I feel that wouldn't benefit us as much as a resource), we instead primarily attempt to added each of the references to the BTS sections of the pages of whatever Star Wars thing inspired the item. And I guess this method could even include concepts such as the Force-related finishers (think custom assassinations in most FPS games) like Force choke or Force lightning, or even the new Destiny 2 walkers being inspired by AT-STs. (Might be worth doing regardless of other methods anyway.)
I'm open to anything and everything in regards to this portion of coverage, though I do at least think this should be addressed somewhere.
Galleries/Concept Art
This is the simplest thing to address. Two questions really:
1) Should we create a screenshot page for the game akin to Wookieepedia:Star Wars: Hunters screenshots or would it not be beneficial enough to us to even try since they aren't exactly public-facing articles?
2) Could we add a concept gallery to the Destiny 2 page as multiple pieces of collab specific concept art have already been released publicly online, some by Bungie directly regarding the new Star Wars-inspired factions, and other by artists posting about the collab cosmetics?
I know this is a lot, I tried to cover all our bases here so we didn't have to spread this out over many different conversations given Renegade's imminent arrival. And as one of the only D2 players who edits the site, I felt I had some insights I could try to convey to everyone else to help the deliberation process. Feel free to add any note, I just personally don't think we should hand wave coverage for the expansion entirely, our approach just has to be tactful in how we document it. Who knows, maybe we could just link to the Destiny wiki or something (and I guess we'll need to revisit the conversation regarding the inclusion of the name of the Destiny space rhino species, as I unfortunately wasn't aware it had real world offensive meaning until very recently, but they're prominently featured in the expansion). Anyways, hope to get some feedback! - MTrac1000 (talk) 16:28, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

- For me, as I've said before, I'm not in support of us dedicating entire articles for subjects that are only inspired by Star Wars and not meant to be Star Wars subjects themselves (even non-canon), because at that point we're effectively just making Destiny articles on Wook. Similarly, for concept art galleries, I personally feel that it's far beyond Wook's focus. I also don't think that Minecraft Star Wars: Path of the Jedi and Star Wars: Visions are comparable. While the two projects are currently considered non-canon, both are still very much playing in the Star Wars sandbox. Whereas Destiny, while it has content inspired by Star Wars, it is set in its own (third-party) universe. We could just link to a known Destiny wiki, which we do a lot when the subject is simply far beyond the Star Wars universe. Overall, the relevant Star Wars content in Destiny can fully be covered and expanded in its own article. Bonzane10
