- "The line between light and dark is so very thin. Do you know which side you're on?"
- ―A popular Destiny 2 tagline spoken by the antagonist of the game's "Forsaken" expansion, Uldren Sov
Destiny 2 is a free-to-play MMO FPS, created[1] and currently published by video game development company, Bungie,[2] which launched on February 6, 2017.[3] The first Destiny 2 x Star Wars collaboration was announced on January 28, 2025, which would begin following week alongside the launch of Destiny 2's "Episode III: Heresy – 'Act I'" on February 4, 2025.[7]
First Collaboration & Development ‡
- "Now it's time to take a first look at the newest collaboration that's going to be coming to Destiny 2, and this one is joining us from a galaxy far, far away. […] Our next collaboration is inspired by a universe that's loved by so many of us at the studio, Star Wars."
- ―Bungie senior social media manager, Andy Salisbury, announcing the Destiny 2 x Star Wars collaboration during the Destiny 2: Heresy Act I Developer Livestream

This initial collaboration between Bungie and Lucasfilm Games brought with it a number of "Imperial-themed" cosmetics, including three armor ornament sets, one for each in-game character class, those being the "Shock Enforcer Armor," a Stormtrooper-inspired set for "Titans," the "Royal Protector Armor," an Imperial Royal Guard-inspired set for "Warlocks," and the "Covert Ranger Armor," a Death trooper-inspired set for "Hunters."[8]
The promotion also features the "DS-2 Shell," a DS-2 Death Star II Mobile Battle Station-inspired "Ghost Shell," as well as the "Advanced Prototype Jumpship," a TIE Advanced x1-inspired "Ship," the "Repulsorlift Jumpspeeder," a 74-Z speeder bike-inspired "Sparrow," the "Unlimited Power," "Paracausal Pitch," and "Riot Control" Finishers, and the "Remote Training Session," "Infantry Practice," and "Fated Duel" Emotes, all available for purchase via the game's "Silver" digital currency.[7]

Each of these items could be purchased individually, however, the armor ornaments were also listed together in the in-game store as the "Galactic Imperial Set," the equipment could be purchased as a bundle referred to as the "Galactic Imperial Set," and the finishers and emotes were distributed as the "Interstellar Warfare Finishers Bundle" and "Interstellar Warfare Emotes Bundle" respectively.[8]
The key art used to reveal the Destiny 2 x Star Wars collaboration was created by the animator "Drexis Animations."[9] Video editor Zackery Brown also revealed that working on the aforementioned collab was his final project as Bungie Capture Team Leader.[10] Both Anthony Huls, a freelance gameplay capture artist,[11] and Bungie social media manager Mitch Alpiner,[12] also contributed to the collaboration in some capacity, the former helping in the capture and creation of promotional material,[11] and the latter devising the official announcement posts for both Bungie and Lucasfilm Games.[12]

These cosmetics were made available the day of the stream, making them some of the final in-game items to be introduced in Destiny's final piece of "Year 10" content, "Episode III: Heresy – 'Act III'".[13] The moment the pre-order bonuses became available, a bundle of in-game cosmetics titled the "Clandestine Cargo Set" was also made available for purchase with "Silver." This set included the "Inferno Shell," a Dio the Inferno Squad ID10 seeker droid-inspired "Ghost Shell," the "Silent Vendetta," a TIE vendetta space superiority fighter aka TIE silencer-inspired "Ship," the "Crescent Infiltrator," a FC-20 speeder bike Bloodfin-inspired "Sparrow."[8]
The Big Announcement ‡
- "It is an essential 'Fate Saga' story, and it's an homage to a universe that has inspired Bungie from the start. It's a universe that all of us on the couch grew up with as well as everyone else at the studio and millions of you back at home too. […] It is a peanut butter and chocolate combination inside of what we're making that could only be possible in the kind of world that we build here. And so I am absolutely thrilled to be able to give our first sneak peak at 'Destiny 2: Renegades.'"
- ―Destiny narrative director, Alison Lührs, announcing the Star Wars-inspired expansion Destiny 2: Renegades" during the Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate Reveal Event
During the May 6 reveal livestream, Destiny narrative director, Alison Lührs, showcased a teaser for the second expansion of the "The Fate Saga," previously titled "Codename: Behemoth" but now confirmed to be entitled "Destiny 2: Renegades." "Renegades" was stated to be an entirely Star Wars-themed expansion, taking many cues from the galaxy far, far away, including OST, sound effects, story, and setting, taking place within locations colloquially referred to as a "lawless frontier," with a narrative described as being very "space western," but still with a distinctly Destiny-centric story.[13]
The "Destiny 2: Renegades Pre-Order Pack" included an exclusive emblem and ship
Pre-orders specifically for "Renegades" also included the "Starside Introduction" in-game emblem[15] and an additional ship, the "Renegade Leader," inspired by the iconic X-wing starfighter and including a dynamic robotic element resembling an astromech droid.[16] A bug accompanied the release of this pre-order ship, causing another ship added as a reward within the "Ash & Iron" season Reward Pass, the "Autognosis," to instead be erroneously share the name and bio of the "Renegade Leader," though this was eventually resolved.[8]
A second Destiny 2 Developed Livestream took place on November 25, 2025, showcasing a number of aspects of the upcoming expansion, though focusing on a few key elements such as the effort taken to strike a balance between the Destiny and Star Wars franchises, the character designs and voice acting, the expansion's OST, and the new weapons coming to the expansion, primarily the Lightsaber-inspired "Praxic Blade." The rest of the stream featured gameplay footage showing off said new weapons, as well we abilities, activities, enemies, and menus, before ending with the official "Renegades" story trailer.[17]
Destiny 2: Renegades ‡
Mandalorian-themed armor ornaments added alongside the launch of Destiny 2: Renegades
"Destiny 2: Renegades" launched on December 2, 2025. Accompanying the expansion was a slew of new in-game items inspired by The Mandalorian, including a Finisher where the user fires a flurry of whistling bird constructs from their wrist, as well as the "Galactic Tech Set" featuring the "Cargo Runner," a Razor Crest-inspired "Ship," the "Marshal's Colt," a "Sparrow" based on Cobb Vanth's speeder, and the "Mechanical Assassin Shell," a "Ghost Shell" resembling the disembodied head of an IG-series like IG-11. Also included within this promotional tie-in was a trio of Mandalorian armor ornament sets, the "Singular Mercenary Set" inspired by the armor by Boba Fett, specifically within Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, the "Devoted Warrior Set" inspired by the silver armor worn by Din Djarin, and the "Noble Partisan" inspired by the Nite Owls armor worn by Bo-Katan Kryze.[8]
Additional obtainables inspired by Star Wars but not specifically The Mandalorian include the "Winning Beat" Emote, where the emoter drums on a trio of Imperial helmets Ewok-style, in addition to three "Praxic Blade" customization sets. These included the "Praxic Embellishment Set," featuring both the "Golden Age Hilt" and "Dark Matter Crystal: Gradient," the "Jewel of Power Set," featuring both the "Kingsblade" and "Dark Matter Crystal: White," and the "Reefblade Set," featuring both the "Royal Guard Hilt" and "Dark Matter Crystal: Purple." All of these new Star Wars-inspired items, as well as every cosmetic from both of the previous collaborations and pre-orders, could be found under a brand new section within the game's "Eververse Store" dubbed the "Legends" tab, all available via the game's "Silver" digital currency.[8]
The roster of Star Wars-inspired Legendary-rarity weapons added alongside Destiny 2: Renegades
Six Legendary-rarity Star Wars-inspired weapons were also added within "Renegades." These in included the "All or Nothing" Pulse Rifle, resembling on Boba Fett's EE-3 carbine rifle, the "Modified B-7 Pistol" Hand Cannon, resembling Cassian Andor's MW-20 Bryar pistol, the "Refurbished A499" Sniper Rifle, resembling Din Djarin's Amban phase-pulse blaster, the "Uncivil Discourse" Hand Cannon, resembling Han Solo's modified DL-44 heavy blaster pistol, the "Compact Defender" Sidearm, resembling Princess Leia's personal Defender sporting blaster pistol, and the "M-17 'Fast Talker'" Submachine Gun, resembling the DC-17m Repeating Blaster Rifles commonly utilized by Republic clone commandos.[18]
One of the key elements of the collaboration was the "Praxic Blade," Destiny's very own version of the lightsaber. This Exotic-rarity weapon could be obtained as one of the steps within the "Renegades" campaign, specifically as a reward for completing the Exotic Mission "Fire and Ice," which sees the player enter on a temple on the icy moon of Europa and face a gauntlet of trials to earn their very own blade, similar to the process Jedi Initiates underwent on the planet Ilum to obtain their first Kyber crystal. After engaging with a mix of parkour, puzzles, and combats, players would reach a chest which would grant them the Praxic Blade, before being allowed to test its capabilities on one final wave of enemies.[8]
The lightsaber-like "Praxic Blade" alongside a couple of its interchangeable "Dark Matter Crystals"
Once acquired, the Praxic Blade features four major forms of customization upon examination, including swapping out its "Dark Matter Crystal," its "Focus," its "Form," and its "Core." Nearly all of these mods will be locked until players complete certain objectives which make them available to equip. "Cores" and "Dark Matter Crystals" specifically offer a unique challenge to find, with the former changing the entire playstyle of the weapon, while the latter changes the color of the blade. One of these crystals, either "Blue" or "Green" will be unlocked by default but at random upon initially obtaining the weapon, with the other earnable within the "Praxic's Path Quest." "Red," "Orange," "Cyan," "Indigo," and "Magenta" crystals could be dropped randomly from "Renegades"- specific multiplayer modes. "White," "Gradient," and "Purple" were available to purchase in individual bundles within the "Eververse Store." "Yellow" was the reward for completing the "Praxic Professional Exotic Order." And the Darksaber-like "Taken" crystal will be obtainable within the upcoming "Equilibrium" Dungeon.[8]

The endgame "Dungeon" activity associated with "Renegades"[18] named "Equilibrium" will be available to play on December 13, 2025,[19] first open only to qualified three-man fireteams during the activity's "Contest Mode,"[8] before becoming available to all players once after 48 hours or when the special mode has been completed by at least one team, whichever comes first. The primary reward for completing the dungeon will be an Exotic-rarity Combat Bow named "Heirloom," inspired by Chewbacca's bowcaster, though acquiring said weapon is not guaranteed upon completion of "Equilibrium" outside of "Contest Mode."[20]
