Hello, hello. May I present my proposal to update Wookieepedia's Copyright policy. Note that our current license remains unchanged, at Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License 3.0 (Unported) (CC BY-SA). The major changes that I am suggesting include removing bloat, clarifying that users' legal agreements are with Fandom and pointing to the relevant Fandom pages, specifying the status of the wiki's files and the Discussions forum, and adding some local rules on copyright.
The proposed update can be seen here: permalink (diff)
The new rules in my proposal (under "General expectations") which I'd like to highlight are: a rule against plagiarising content from one page to another, and a rule against submitting content from generative artificial intelligence as if it is your own work. If we see an uptick of text supplied via genAI, then we can think about prohibiting that too. I also recommend adding a section at the bottom to reiterate our new Social Media Team policy on intellectual property.
Some background on the policy, based on the Copyrights page history: the last time the substance of the page was changed was in January of 2010, to reflect Wookieepedia's move from GFDL to CC BY-SA in June 2009, and it was only adopted as official policy in February 2012. Before that, it just existed as a "proposed policy" originally derived from Wikipedia in March 2005 and later from Memory Alpha, the Star Trek wiki. I have since rewritten the page substantially so that it no longer is a derivative work—what do we think? OOM 224 (he/him/they) 19:52, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

- Seems fine. Regarding AI, why not just wholesale forbid any addition to articles that originates from an AI. Not sure why we don't settle this early rather than whenever it will become a problem? NanoLuukeCloning Facility 21:29, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- We've tackled AI a bit from that upscale image issue. But yea, no to generative AI entirely is good. Bonzane10

- Aye sure. Probably best to make a separate vote for that though, since it's not entirely a copyright issue. OOM 224 (he/him/they) 21:42, 16 November 2024 (UTC)

- Above seems fine; though as noted would like to see a subvote on the generative AI issue.—spookywillowwtalk 19:36, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- Per above, I have now drafted the vote, which is also informed by existing and emerging legalese on moral rights and AI. Please take a look here. OOM 224 (he/him/they) 23:25, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Looks good to me. NanoLuukeCloning Facility 14:39, 10 December 2024 (UTC)

- Section "Wiki content", first paragraph: "and, additionally, "waive such restriction with respect to Fandom’s use of such contribution and any derivative works of such contribution."" This refers to Commercial Use Waiver which only applies to licenses with NonCommercial clause. CC BY-SA requires no such waiver because commercial use is allowed by default. 01miki10 Open comlink 15:35, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
