This proposal aims to create parameters for a current gray area in the FAN rules, specifically rule #15. The purpose for this change is to make room for nominators to move their first GAN to the FAN when the GAN goes over the word count during the nomination process due to reasonable misses, such as a needed update from an obscure source the nominator was unaware of. The reason for the expansion limit is to allow for these reasonable misses while preventing writers from nominating an insufficient article as GAN to game the system into letting them nominate it as an FAN. It also prevents a nominator who innocently nominates a GAN that is missing a lot of information from moving to the FAN, as it is likely they need the additional practice on the GAN anyway, which is what the current rule was created to ensure.

The rule currently reads:

  • "…be nominated by a user who has promoted at least one article to Good article status."

I'm proposing that we change it to:

  • "…be nominated by a user who has promoted at least one article to Good article status. Exceptions can be made for a Good article nomination that, due to objections post-nomination, has gone over the Good article word limit, so long as the number of words added during the Good article nomination process is 250 or fewer."
