The result of the debate was preempted by Mofference decision. —MJ— Training Room 19:24, May 18, 2015 (UTC)
Per discussion here, the idea is to create a separate spoiler template that would be used only for spoilers related to Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. There were three basic points of discussion - should we have one, what should it look like and how should it be used? After all of the discussion, it was pretty much universally agreed that the basic idea is solid and a template was created that most participants, though not everyone, seemed to agree was a good idea.
Also, though it wasn't discussed much, it was agreed that the template should only be applied to new material from the film or related products. This would serve as a sort of "stop reading now" for anything that originates from the new film, while also distinguishing other new material not relate to the film, such as say, a Belkor Dray. By keeping it off something like, say, Darth Sidious, were he somehow to be involved in the movie, it would assuage people who didn't want to know, simply from visiting Sidious's page, that he's in The Force Awakens. Of course, it wouldn't stop anybody who chose to read in detail, but at that point, that's their problem if they're concerned about spoilers.
I don't know, perhaps I should split this somehow, but this has been going for so long that I'm not sure I see the point of any further discussion. If it fails, then fine, we can just stick with the normal spoiler template. By voting for this, you agree that: A.) A specific template for The Force Awakens is applied to pages for new characters from The Force Awakens, or new material such as Takodana Castle and will remain until one month after the theatrical release of The Force Awakens. I recommend calling {{VIIspoiler}} - to the point and concise, but I don't really care what it's actually named. B.) That the template used will be this here, originally created by Brandon Rhea, with refinements by both him and Jorrel Fraajic:

Or to put it another way, the following will be added to Wookieepedia:Spoilers under "Available templates:"
"===[[Template:VIIspoiler]]===
- To use, type {{VIIspoiler}}.
This template should be used on article for a subject original to Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens or a directly related product, such as its novelization."

- I support this with emphasis on the principle of not using it for pages like Darth Sidious or other pre-existing characters should they make a surprise appearance or mention in the movie--Richterbelmont10

Discussion
- You realize we're having a Mofference tomorrow, right? :P Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 21:01, May 15, 2015 (UTC)
- I'd prefer to have this here where people have a chance to vote on it over a period of time, rather than a Mofference that many of the people who participated in the original discussion aren't even down as attending. I mean, if you think it would be better to just take care of it there, then by all means, I suppose we could just close this if it's not already too late. I'm just not sure it's the best way. ProfessorTofty (talk) 21:40, May 15, 2015 (UTC)
- I'm not sure why you felt that you needed to start a CT for this to begin with. It's just a temporary template that received no opposition in the SH discussion. We're not that bureaucratic. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 21:45, May 15, 2015 (UTC)
- That's easy enough. Because Master Jonathan, another admin, said that one is required. Specifically because spoilers are covered under official policy. ProfessorTofty (talk) 22:46, May 15, 2015 (UTC)
- Well, I'm sorry, Jonathan, but that's not a good interpretation of the rules. Creating and implementing this template doesn't change any wording or execution of the Spoiler policy. We don't need a formal vote just to add this template link to that policy page. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 22:56, May 15, 2015 (UTC)
- I think that makes sense. If he gives the all-clear then, then I'd be thrilled to go ahead and have this closed and just do it without any further formal vote, but seeing as we have two different admin opinions right now, I don't want to do that until it's all cleared up. Resolution
This template was adopted in the recent Mofference. This CT can therefore be closed. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 16:20, May 17, 2015 (UTC)
- And the necessary language added to Wookieepedia:Spoilers, because it hasn't been yet. ProfessorTofty (talk) 19:48, May 17, 2015 (UTC)
