The result of the debate was adopt proposed policy changes. Imperators II(Talk) 14:59, January 24, 2019 (UTC)
Per the Mofference, it was decided to create Template:ID, which will be used for formatting alternate names in the Appearances and Sources sections. What was not decided at the Mofference were the situations where the template should and should not be used. Tope and I have worked through resolving the differences that we had with the usage of the template to come up with the following proposal.
A Template usage section would be added to the Appearances section of the Layout Guide before the Non-canon appearances section.
The following bullets under Appearances will be moved under the new section:
- If a subject's appearance in a specific film/book/comic is only a brief mention, apply the {{Mo}} template, e.g. for Grand Admiral Thrawn:
- Specter of the Past (Mentioned only)
- For a subject's first appearance in the saga (in order of publication, not in order of internal chronology), use the {{1st}} template, e.g. for Kyle Katarn:
- Star Wars: Dark Forces (First appearance)
- If a subject's first appearance in the saga is only a mere mention, use the {{1stm}} template, e.g. for Dantooine:
- Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope (First mentioned)
- Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi - Dark Lords of the Sith (First appearance)
- A subject might not be named in its first appearance, but is identified in a later source. In this case, use {{1st}} and {{1stID}}, e.g. for Senator Grebleips:
- Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace (First appearance)
- Cloak of Deception (First identified as Grebleips)
- For generic comments, use {{C}}. For example, {{C|Stock footage from ''A New Hope''}} will produce:
- The Star Wars Holiday Special (Stock footage from A New Hope)
- See Wookieepedia:Template messages/Sources of articles for other applicable templates.
- If a subject's appearance in a specific film/book/comic is only a brief mention, apply the {{Mo}} template, e.g. for Grand Admiral Thrawn:
Then the following new section will be added to the new template usage section under appearances:
- The {{ID}} template may be used to denote when an appearance uses an alternate name for a subject.
- Common usage examples include:
- Misspellings (example: (as Dack Ralter))
- Indirect appearances (example: (Indirect appearance only) (as snowspeeder))
- Call signs used in conjunction with {{Imo}} (example: (Indirect mention only) (as Rogue Eleven))
- Ambiguous proper-noun references (example: Galaxy Guide 2: Yavin and Bespin refers to Olys Corellisi using the phrase "from the Corellian"; thus, (as Corellian))
- {{ID}} may not be used:
- If the subject is referred to by the actual Wookieepedia article title or an abbreviation, alternate capitalization, nickname, or shortened version of its name (example: Jek Tono Porkins vs. Jek Porkins)
- For names already presented in the article using {{1stID}}
- On articles with conjectural titles
- For general phrases and terms (examples: (as Rebel soldier) for a named character; (as attack on Hoth) for Battle of Hoth)
- Common usage examples include:
- Note: {{C}} may not be used in substitution of {{ID}} or to circumvent the listed usage rules.
A similar section will be added to the end of the template usage section of the Sources section of the Layout Guide:
- The {{ID}} template may be used to denote when a source uses an alternate name for a subject.
- For names already presented in the article using {{1stID}}
The overall idea is to prevent overusing the template, especially in situations where the article name is different than the most prevalent name (i.e. DS-1 Death Star Mobile Battle Station) or where a subject used more than one name (i.e. Anakin Skywalker).--Exiled Jedi (talk) 04:21, January 16, 2019 (UTC)

Discussion
- Correct me if I'm wrong, but the current wording forbids the usage of the template for the full name "DS-1 Orbital Battle Station" but not for the name "Death Star"... Imperators II(Talk) 10:57, January 16, 2019 (UTC)
- The template wouldn't be used for either because DS-1 Orbital Battle Station is the full name and Death Star would count as a nickname. Both of those would fall under the first point of the section where the template should not be used.--Exiled Jedi (talk) 23:51, January 16, 2019 (UTC)
- Also, to clarify, would the proposed policy wording forbid the use of the template in cases like this? Imperators II(Talk) 23:07, January 16, 2019 (UTC)
- This situation is in a little more of a gray area. This could be considered to be a shortened version of its name, which would mean that the template would not be used. However, I could also see the argument being made that the way Shasfath is referred to in the Appendix is an ambiguous proper noun reference. I would lean towards the former interpretation.--Exiled Jedi (talk) 23:51, January 16, 2019 (UTC)
