Now that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is out, we've been talking spoilers on IRC. In our efforts to accommodate those in the main channel (#wookieepedia) who have not yet seen the movie, we've moved our discussions to a new subchannel: #wookieepedia-spoilers, which has now been registered with Freenode for official Wookieepedia use. So, very simply, I propose we add #wookieepedia-spoilers to our list of officially-recognized IRC subchannels so that it may be governed under our IRC policies. 5. Tepid support, and it's tepid only on the basis that we shouldn't have to vote for these sorts of things. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 06:45, December 19, 2017 (UTC)
    • The Rules section of the IRC page is an official policy that was ratified at the September 2016 Mofference. Amendments made to any of our site policies need to be met with community approval. It would be quite inappropriate for myself or any of our administrators to just register a Freenode channel and unilaterally declare it to be under the governance of our community-approved policies. This vote is necessary to grant this new channel formal community recognition. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 07:28, December 19, 2017 (UTC)
      • All of which I find to be unnecessary bureaucracy, hence my tepid support. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 07:46, December 19, 2017 (UTC)
        • Requiring community support to create and amend the policies that affect and govern all of us here on Wookieepedia isn't unnecessary bureaucracy, Brandon. It's democratic rule of law. Start a new Consensus Track if you want to change the way Wookieepedia operates. Your opinion of its merits is hardly relevant here. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 07:59, December 19, 2017 (UTC)
          • And yet you continue to debate me anyway. An expression of my opinion did not require follow up comments so I'm moving on from this now. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 16:11, December 19, 2017 (UTC)
            • This isn't a debate. The procedures of our wiki have already been decided. No, this is me setting you straight and nipping your brand of anarchism in the bud lest you influence some other poor fool into believing we don't need to follow rules around here. That, I assure you, is quite necessary, and I will always be here to put an end to such nonsense. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 16:47, December 19, 2017 (UTC)
