The result of the debate was Adopt modified Dialogue and Quote templates. Grunny (talk) 03:27, June 7, 2010 (UTC)
After some discussion on a SH thread, I bring this thing to a CT.
The new dialogue template
So, well, what's this about? It's a new dialogue template, which will replace almost every other quote template. Practical, isn't it?
There are a few things that will change if we adopt this new dialogue template:
- The code will be
{{Dialogue|speaker1|speaker1 dialogue|speaker2|speaker2 dialogue|...|attr=|audio=|url=|src=}}- |attr= is the attribution, or who said it.
- |audio= doesn't need to be filled (nor included in the code) if there isn't audio for the quote. Otherwise, add the file name without the "File:" prefix.
- |url= doesn't need to be filled nor included in the code if the source is an internal link. If the source, however, is an url, add 'yes' here, like ...|url=yes|src=....
- |src= is the source parameter; where you add the source. If you enter 'yes' above, you can add an url as a source.
Some examples can be found at my subpage. If you have any questions regarding the new template, ask me either here or on my talk page.
The only dialogue templates that will remain are {{dialogue Bilingual}}, {{dialoguetrans}}, {{dialoguetrans2}} and {{dialoguetrans3}}.
Modifying the quote template
Well, what's this about, then? It's a new, modified quote template, which can be used just like the standard one, the {{qlisten}} and {{quoteurl}}.
There are a few things that will change if the new version of the quote template is adopted:
- The standard quote will still be the same {{Quote|dialogue|attribution|source}}
- However, if there is audio for the quote, you can add another parameter, |audio=, between the attribution and the source, like this: {{Quote|dialogue|attribution|audio=Example.ogg|source}}
- If the source is an url, you can add an |url= parameter, which can be filled with an url, like this: {{Quote|dialogue|attribution|url=http://en.wikipedia.org}}
Some examples can be found at my other subpage. As with the above proposal, questions can be left here on my talk page.
The quote templates that will remain are {{qlistentrans}}, {{quotetrans}}, {{quotetrans2}}, {{quote2}} and {{quoteurl2}}.
Please note that if we adopt these new templates, it will take a while before we have updated them all. During this time, I think that everyone has get used to the templates.

- Before we start voting, I improved on the concept (hope you don't mind, Xd :) ) and combined both templates into one.
script=yesis used to switch between the two formats, and the regular quote style can handle up to ten lines without the need for manual line breaks like we currently do. Should we go with this instead? —Master Jonathan(Jedi Council Chambers) 13:58, May 31, 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm, interesting. The quote template could also be adjusted so that either a source or an url parameter is required:
{{#if:{{{url|}}}|<span class="plainlinks">[{{{url|}}} <nowiki>[src]]|}}</nowiki>. -- 1358 (Talk) 14:04, May 31, 2010 (UTC) - I'm quite happy to have one dialogue template and one quote one rather than sticking the switch in, but I like the idea of allowing multi-line quotes without the manual line breaks. At least it makes sure they're handled consistently. Green Tentacle (Talk) 20:00, June 1, 2010 (UTC)
- Yep, definitely per GT. -- 1358 (Talk) 05:05, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
- This will, IMO, require a separate CT vote. -- 1358 (Talk) 12:45, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
- For now, let's just vote on the proposal above. We can discuss my modifications and whether to adopt part or all of it later in the SH. —Master Jonathan

- I really don't see the need to have separate source (src) and url attributes. You're only going to use one for any given quote, and "source" accurately describes the purpose of both. —Xwing328(Talk) 06:07, June 4, 2010 (UTC)
- The reason for having both is to tell the template what format has to be used for the source link. External link sources require a different format and an extra CSS class in comparison to internal link sources. —Master Jonathan
