In the past few days, Wookieepedia has received two nomination requests to become one of our "Official Friends", which I think have raised a few points of concern in the nomination process that require updating to fit more with our current functionality.
Basically, the following things stick out to me: 1) The Official Friends voting process is not subject to our Consensus policy; 2) Nomination requests currently are indicated to last 3 weeks, which doesn't seem practical or necessary; and 3) Judging from comments made on the current nominations, friend requests that have nothing to do with Star Wars are frowned upon.
So, I propose we revise the Official Friends "Selection process," which currently reads as follows:
- Any Wookieepedian will nominate potential Official Friends on this page. Or, websites / individuals who request to become an Official Friend will be placed here.
- Other Wookieepedians can vote for (or against) the nominated site over a period of three weeks.
- The Administrators will approve the decision, based on the votes and any other relevant factors.
- The nominated site will be contacted by an allocated Wookieepedian, inviting them to become an Official Friend.
- With the nominee's approval, they will be declared an Official Friend.
To read as follows, including adopting the new specified updates:
- Any Wookieepedian will nominate potential Official Friends on this page. Or, websites / individuals who request to become an Official Friend will be placed here.
- Nominations must be related in some way to Star Wars, Wookieepedia's sole concentration
- Other eligible Wookieepedians can vote for (or against) the nominated site over a period of two weeks.
- The Administrators will approve the decision, as determined by Wookieepedia's Consensus policy, based on the votes and any other relevant factors
- The nominated site will be contacted by an allocated Wookieepedian, inviting them to become an Official Friend.
- With the nominee's approval, they will be declared an Official Friend.
The extension of our Consensus policy to this nomination process effectively requires each nomination to secure the requisite minimum of 10 participation votes that are required on every CT and TC forum, it allows us to actually determine the outcome of a disputed vote, should that ever occur, and it allows administrators to close the vote after one week if consensus is clear, and after no more than two weeks otherwise, similar to our CT and TC process.
Additionally, nominations would now be required to show some relevance to Star Wars, which shouldn't be hard to do if the website is worth our time anyway. Even the Transformers Wiki was able to demonstrate Star Wars relevance. Toprawa and Ralltiir 02:03, May 16, 2010 (UTC)
