The result of the debate was Change both "Featured Articles" and "more" Main Page navigation bar links in Monaco to Wookieepedia:Featured articles. Toprawa and Ralltiir 17:09, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
This may seem super minor, but it's in the interest of showcasing Wookieepedia's best articles to the outside world. On the main page, when you click on "Featured Articles" or the "more..." in the drop-down menu, it takes you to
the category page on starwars.wikia.com (backup link not verified!), which lists only the first 198 FA's and is organized alphabetically. Instead, I think it should take you to Wookieepedia:Featured articles, which lists every FA, is organized by type, looks pretty, and has handy links at the top to the Good articles, the FAN page, and the GAN page. This would especially be useful to people outside of our little community, who, with just one click, would have instant access to all 938 Featured Articles that Wookieepedia has to offer. - As I believe had been said several times before, we should cater to our readers. Most of them don't have an account and are therefore forced to use Monaco, so this makes perfect sense. —Master Jonathan

- Maybe I'm just not seeing it, so help me out here. But as far as I can tell, both "Featured article" links (in Random Article and the FA of the day) already link to the FA page. And the only place I see a "more" link is for the interwiki links. What exactly are you referring to? Toprawa and Ralltiir 17:32, July 20, 2010 (UTC)
- Just to clarify, this applies solely to Monaco (or at least, not to MonoBook, the only good skin :P ). Chack Jadson (Talk) 17:51, July 20, 2010 (UTC)

- Just a query. The sidebar dropdown menu is made using this page: MediaWiki:Monaco-sidebar. The line that adds the featured article dropdown and the more... link at the bottom is:
#category-Wookieepedia_featured_articles#|Featured Articles. This automatically pulls and lists the first seven items from Category:Featured articles, and then links to it; it's done by the software. So, are we going to just list the first few items in the category under the dropdown (since we'd have to do it manually)? Or we could try changing the more link with JavaScript. Grunny (talk) 23:20, July 20, 2010 (UTC)- More JS = longer loading time, and we've got more than enough JS to slow down the site already. I would prefer to list a few FAs manually, and the ones that are listed should be selected based on overall importance to the Star Wars saga, with preference given to longer articles, subjects from the films, and subjects which had a significant impact on galactic events. Ideally, I think we should aim for a mixture of those three categories, though there will be quite a bit of overlap between them. Any number from 5 to 10 would be fine with me, with the caveat that a short list of backup articles should be maintained to quickly replace an article stripped of its FA status. Thoughts? —Master Jonathan

- Yeah, the current listing of Plagueis, Bane, Caedus, Jaina, Mara, the 501st, and Darth Sion is great (at least, that's what always appears to my monaco?). If they pass their current FAN's, Wedge and Malak should be in there, too. Menkooroo 04:46, July 21, 2010 (UTC)
- The FA list page is already under the navigation menu. How many links do we need? Anyway, I don't like the idea of listing a few selected articles out of the 900+. I don't know how the system picks them at the moment, but it seems a little unfair for us to start picking them ourselves. Why not take the link off navigation and have a featured articles menu which links to the FA page, FAN page and maybe even a random one? Green Tentacle (Talk) 12:07, July 21, 2010 (UTC)
- For anyone wondering, File:Clarification.jpg|this is the drop-down menu that currently exists... I think you can all see it, but I'm not sure if it's a monaco thing or not, so I snapped the screenshot just in case. Does anyone know who chooses which articles appear there/what the selection process is? I always assumed admins did it manually to showcase FA's on popular/important subjects, which I think is actually the best solution ("Hey, readers outside our community! Check out these FA's!"). Menkooroo 16:34, July 21, 2010 (UTC)
- First, those that use Monobook can easily view the Main Page with Monaco by clicking on that link I just provided. Second, yes, that drop-down menu is on Monaco only; for those still using Monaco, the Monobook main page can be seen here. Finally, the FAs in the current Monaco drop-down list are selected automatically by the software; see Grunny's post earlier in this section for details on that. —Master Jonathan

- Wait --- Grunny said that it pulls and lists the first seven items from Category:Featured Articles. What does he mean by "first"? ... Largest? 'Cause it's suspiciously all "important" articles... Menkooroo 00:48, July 22, 2010 (UTC)

- Plagueis is visited more than Obi-Wan? ... Shaak Ti more than Leia? ... "Transport" more than C-3PO? That's it, I quit. Menkooroo 07:36, July 22, 2010 (UTC)
- It's one of those self-fulling prophecies/positive feedback loops/vicious cycles. By featuring those 7 articles in the "Top 7" Featured Articles list, they get visited more. Since they get visited more, they
get moved toremain at the top of the list. It's not a very fair system, is it? - Esjs(Talk) 20:22, July 23, 2010 (UTC)
