The result of the debate was implement uncropped new image. Tommy-Macaroni 20:42, September 11, 2020 (UTC)
Hello, Wookieepedians. A quick recap of the background to this vote: There was some controversy a while back over which image to use for the Luke Skywalker infobox. We held this vote, but nothing really became of it. It was never formally closed, never reached consensus, and we actually ended up prohibiting talk-page consensus votes in its aftermath. I don't think anyone was perfectly happy with any of those voting options. Somehow, option 6 from that vote ended up as the article's current infobox image, though few people actually voted for it. Which leads us to where we stand today.
Recently, I stumbled across this image, a digital version of a page from Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Ultimate Sticker Collection found on the DK website, and Spookywilloww was gracious enough to lend her time and considerable image-editing abilities to turn it into this. I believe this is the premier Luke Skywalker sequel trilogy publicity shot. But for some reason it hasn't been widely circulated in media, which I think is why we've had so much trouble with this situation, as we've mostly been relegated to these unsatisfying film stills.
So, I am proposing that we officially make this the Luke Skywalker infobox image. Since no consensus was achieved on the previous talk-page vote, this renewed vote is technically not necessary, but since this is (arguably) Wookieepedia's most important article and the prior vote was a bit contentious, I figured it would be worth putting a formal consensus behind this decision.
One note on this image: I know we generally prefer a white or transparent background for infobox images, but that was mostly impossible in this case. A version of this image with a white background does exist from Fathead, but it's unusable both because it doesn't exist on the Internet in high resolution, but more importantly, the editing job someone did on this thing around the edges looks pretty bad. It's impossible to perfectly weave in and out of Luke's hair strands, so you'll notice someone just cropped off the edges of his hair, which makes the whole thing look artificial.
Huge thanks again to spookly for putting in the time and work to give us this image. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 18:40, September 6, 2020 (UTC)

The vote
The vote is going to work like this: You will vote to either Support or Oppose this proposal. The Support section will include two suboptions for this image, Uncropped or Cropped, and will be a plurality vote, meaning simple majority between the two wins. By voting for either of these two Support suboptions, you are voting for this image in some form. Or you can vote Oppose, which means all versions of this image are rejected and we stay where we are now with no agreed-upon image. The sum total of Support votes must achieve consensus over the Oppose votes for this proposal to pass.
I Support this image and choose one of the following options
Uncropped
- Honestly, I'd also be fine with cropped. - JMAS
Hey, it's me! 18:48, September 6, 2020 (UTC) - For consistency's sake, I prefer this one. Not really a fan of shorter infobox images. UberSoldat93

- What an absolute king. This one makes Luke look so majestic. MasterFred

- Both look good, of course. But I tend to think the fuller shot makes him look more regal, and the vertical looks better with the larger size of the intro in this case. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 18:54, September 6, 2020 (UTC)
- I agree with Toprawa's point about regality. Wok142 (talk) 19:17, September 6, 2020 (UTC)
- I tend to prefer this sort of aspect ratio for infobox images. Zed42 (talk) 19:22, September 6, 2020 (UTC)

- This is almost as majestic as The Lion King. Mr Star Wars AminoRepublic (talk) 20:13, September 6, 2020 (UTC)
- Either of these is better than the current option. Ayrehead02 (talk) 20:29, September 6, 2020 (UTC)

- Honestly, I was originally intending to go with the cropped version, but for such a minor difference I'm happy to just side with the majority. The regality argument also makes a fair point :P Tommy-Macaroni 21:30, September 6, 2020 (UTC)

Cropped
- Personally I like my infobox images closer on the subject's face, but both images work. Either way, may arms-crossed-Luke look over us for all eternity. RattsT (talk) 19:58, September 6, 2020 (UTC)
