The result of the debate was Wookieepedia will cover both Canon and Legends content and will not split wikis in this regard. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 00:56, May 7, 2014 (UTC)
So, there has been some talk bout splitting wikis in the aftermath of the new canon debacle. Our official system for dealing this will be ready for official proposal soon; as a first step, let's make the general opposition to splitting wikis official.
This CT is to determine whether Wookieepedia will or will not cover the new canon content, and whether we will shunt either Legends or canon content to a new site. There are three options: keep both continuities here, cover the canon content at a different wiki, or move our Legends content to a new wiki.

Cover both
- There's absolutely no reason to split the wiki in any form. Either option will result in the other wiki eventually surpassing us in readership, because the new movies are going to generate a lot of interest. Splitting would also essentially spell the end of Legends as we know it, as we'd eventually lose our readers to that other wiki. Cade

- Whatever system we ultimately decide on to cover Canon and Legends, the idea of splitting wikis is unthinkable. We would be signing our death warrant, because that wiki would end up surpassing us eventually. We can't afford to restrict ourselves to Legends only here on Wookieepedia. - Seriously, are there people who think splitting is a good idea? This is what subpages are for. This is why we have the "/" in pagenames. This is why there is theoretically no limit to how big this wiki can get. Yes, technical issues will need to be worked out later, but we will work them out. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 01:15, April 30, 2014 (UTC)
- I will change my vote if the other site would be "Wookiepedia" though. Jorrel

- As much as I hate the current situation, and will probably never touch any of the "new canon" media myself, I feel like there's no reason Wookieepedia should do the same. We have to cover everything, so that future generations can decide what they like best, canon or Legends. QuiGonJinn

- We always have, and always will, cover things that were officially licensed Star Wars material. Just because Disney decides the EU gets in the way of making money doesn't make it any less relevant to Wookieepedia. SFH (talk) 00:08, May 1, 2014 (UTC)

- Of course. Like I have said several times, I despise this new canon system, but Wookieepedia always has and always will be the greatest Star Wars wiki out there. This is one of the biggest things that makes Wookieepeda so successful: we put aside our personal feelings for the betterment and completeness of the wiki.—Cal Jedi

Splitting up would be an absolutely terrible idea. In times like this the last thing we need is to fracture our community, which would inevitably lead to a decrease in quality of ALL Star Wars wiki content. Split Legends off to a new wiki
Split the new canon off to a new wiki
Discussion
Largely playing Devil's Advocate here, but why would Wookieepedia theoretically being finite and/or another Star Wars Wiki hypothetically surpassing us in size be a problem? This may just be down to my own interpretation of this whole thing, but isn't this just like the end of one work of fiction and the beginning of a (almost) completely new one? Rod (talk) 05:48, April 30, 2014 (UTC)
- One reason I can think of: the official site links to Wookieepedia in its encyclopedia, so it makes sense for starwars.wikia.com to continue to give up-to-date information on Star Wars canon. If Wookieepedia were focused solely on "Legendary" material, with a new wiki set up for the new canon, that link would likely be lost, with a corresponding loss of prestige and prominence for the Wookieepedia project. On the other hand, if Wookieepedia totally refocused on the new canon with the old EU moved to another wiki, it would obscure the articles Wookieepedians have been working on since '05. —Silly Dan (talk) 00:21, May 1, 2014 (UTC)
Just so I understand, this discussion is about whether or not to move content to another site, and not what, specifically, is going to happen to existing content, right? That is, if "Cover both" passes, the new format of articles themselves is a separate discussion, correct? —Milo Fett[Comlink] 16:36, May 5, 2014 (UTC)
