The result of the debate was Support proposal.
The Deletion policy could benefit from addressing Index pages and keeping deleted content in one's userspace. Related to this, the User page and profile policy should clarify how to create a page in one's userspace, in addition to providing an example as it does already.
1) I therefore propose that a small addition to the following line (change indicated in underline):
- "Files, templates, categories, and Index pages that are unused on Wookieepedia may be speedy deleted."
2) I also propose adding the following point to the end of the Deletion policy's "Contesting a deletion" section:
- "*You can request an administrator to retrieve deleted content for personal use in your userspace, pursuant to the User page and profile policy."
3) Finally, I think the "However, users may create subpages of their user page to accommodate personal projects" part on the User page and profile policy would benefit with a link to creating a subpage/workbench. I propose appending ", which can be done by clicking this link."

I think there needs to be a time frame for point 1. So it should say "...unused after _ days on Wookieepedia..." I'm leaning towards 2 days. - JMAS

- Chiming in that that might be a better sub-vote rather than together with just the small index page tweak.—spookywillowwtalk 19:42, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
- I'd rather there not be a set time limit and let users use common sense, tbh. It'd be a bit petty to delete a file right after it's taken out of an article, even though it's technically not against policy. Or maybe there's a file that someone wants to use after expanding an article, and they had unexpected delays and took some time doing it. Or folks might end up trying to keep track of how long file have been unused for and end up needlessly worrying about beating whatever the set timeframe is, whether to keep or delete the file. - Yeah, my brain perhaps didn't translate what it was thinking into words very well. I was thinking of that exact example, of those unforeseen circumstances pulling someone away before they can use a file, template or category. I mainly wanted to ensure that things don't get deleted right away. It's that "it's technically not against policy" part that I was concerned with. I'm not suggesting a set time limit, per se. I'm suggesting that should be a minimum amount of time before the unused items can be deleted. - JMAS

- I have to note for the record that as far as unused files are concerned we have a pretty firmly established procedure by now where those are only deleted monthly. (Though granted that when that deletion sweep does come I don't discriminate the files by how old they are. :P) Imperators II(Talk) 07:09, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
