Fingerprint masques were thin, liquid-crystal biochemical screens that could create random fingerprint patterns or mimic the fingerprints of others. They could fit on an individual's fingertips and were able to fool most basic fingerprint scanners. Some advanced models could be embedded with synthetic DNA information to trick more sophisticated sensors. Fingerprint masques cost 1,000 credits on the market and were sold in sets tailored for most species.[1]
Behind the scenes
Fingerprint masques were first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in Cyphers and Masks,[1] a 2018 sourcebook for the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game published by Fantasy Flight Games.[2] They originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were first mentioned in Galaxy Guide 11: Criminal Organizations, a 1994 roleplaying supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, written by Rick D. Stuart and published by West End Games.[3]
