The fingerlip garpon, also referred to as Finger-Lipped Garpon or simply garpon, was a species[3] of scalefin fish[1] found in the oceans and lakes of the planets Ahch-To,[2] Corellia,[1] and Koboh.[3] The fish had silver-scaled bodies with long thin lower jaws that extended far beyond their broader upper jaws below their nostrils and black eyes. The species possessed a pair of fins extending from just behind their gills and a tail fin.[2] The fisherman of Coronet City on Corellia,[1] the fishman Skoova Stev,[3] and members of the sentient Lanai species on Ahch-To caught fingerlip garpons for food.[2] In the year 34 ABY,[4] the Lanai caretaker matron Alcida-Auka prepared a garpon with a fish scaling knife in the Jedi village[2] where Jedi Master Luke Skywalker and the scavenger Rey were residing.[5]
Behind the scenes
A fingerlip garpon first appeared in the 2017 film Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi. The prop was not named in the film,[5] but received identification in Star Wars: The Last Jedi: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book written by Pablo Hidalgo and released in conjunction with the film.[2] The prop was then reused in the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story.[1]
