- "The mountains, sir? Are you sure?"
- ―The woodcutter
A male settler was a woodcutter on the planet Genbara. Once part of a broader group of settlers striving to rebuild their lives far from the turmoil of war near the Core Worlds, he came to live in the countryside of Genbara. The woodcutter crossed paths with the former Sith known as the Ronin and his companion astromech droid R5-D56, offering both shelter and hearsay regarding dangers in the nearby mountains.
Biography
- "There were four villages up there, little droid, when I first built my humble hut. Then there were three, then two—now just the one. Word is they angered a spirit. A spirit that doesn’t take kindly to settlers."
- ―The woodcutter
A woodcutter was one of several settlers on the Outer Rim planet Genbara rebuilding their lives far from the scars war had left on worlds nearer the galaxy's Core Worlds. He built a hut on Genbara, and when it was built there were four villages nearby. Over time, the villages began to lessen in number until there was one left.[1]
The woodcutter provided company and shelter to the Ronin and R5-D56.
One day, when the former Sith known as the Ronin and his astromech droid R5-D56 passed the woodcutter's hut, the old man told the Ronin of a small lean-to where the wanderer could sleep. They later sat together on the veranda of the man's hut, sharing the last pot of stale tea from the Ronin's tin in exchange for hot water and company. The Ronin informed the woodcutter of his plan to go through the nearby mountains. While sucking his teeth, the man asked if he was sure he wanted to do that. Nonetheless, the cutter told the Ronin of how to get through the mountains, detailing how he would need to take the road up through a ridge. The ominous message provided by the woodcutter suggested to the Ronin that he was on the right course, R5-D56 saw the look in his eyes and flashed his light from red to blue under his thatched hat while murmuring a warning.[1]
The woodcutter, not understanding binary, assumed R5 was nervous. He grinned and told the story about the villages that had disappeared, adding that it was believed that the villages angered a spirit that did not take kindly to settlers. In the the Ronin's head, his daughter Mirahi's voice wondered whether the woodcutter thought the spirits did not mind him settling in the area. The Ronin replied out loud to the voice that mountains were different, to which the woodcutter, mistakenly believing the reply was meant for him, sagely nodded. The Ronin and his companion droid spent the night where the woodcutter recommended, and, the next morning, they took off toward the village in the valley.[1]
Personality and traits
The man indicated a belief in spirits, agreeing with the Ronin's assessment that there was something unique about mountains. The Ronin thought the man sounded superstitious.[1]
Skills and abilities
The woodcutter built his own hut on the planet Genbara. He could not speak or understand binary when the Ronin and R5-D56 met him.[1]
