The Tran Mariel runyip was a subspecies of Runyip from Tran Mariel.[2] Like their cousins found on Yavin 4,[4] the Tran Mariel runyip had possessed hooves and tapered ears[2] but instead of a long snout[4] they possessed a long trunk and a shaggy coat of hair.[2] By 10 BBY,[5] the gangster Dryden Vos kept a Tran Mariel runyip in suspended animation in his study aboard his yacht, along with other rare animals.[1]

By 3 ABY,[6] beings had begun racing Runyips. One such racer had his favorite persevered on his yacht after it died. One of his employees later joined the Rokana Raiders and mentioned he and his runyip to a fellow raider while guarding their base[3]
