- "Hey."
"There you are. Who is this?"
"New pilot. He couldn't sleep. We were just talking."
"Hello, pilot. I'll see you tomorrow. Welcome aboard." - ―Niya and her coworker
A human employee of Sienar Fleet Systems worked in Sienar Test Facility 73[1] on the planet designated 73[2] during the reign of the Galactic Empire. In 4 BBY, she passed by[1] the facility's commissary[3] when her coworker Niya[1]—who was assigned to the upkeep of the secretive TIE Avenger prototype[4]—called out to her from inside. Niya was accompanied by a man that the coworker did not recognize, and Niya introduced him as a new test pilot, although in reality he was Cassian Andor, a member of the rebel Axis network who Niya had helped infiltrate the facility in order to steal the prototype starfighter.[1]
The coworker welcomed Andor and then whispered to Niya that he was cute before leaving. Andor then questioned Niya about what the coworker had whispered before successfully stealing the TIE Avenger. The coworker had light skin and brown hair. Like Niya, she wore an orange and white jumpsuit, a black belt and black boots, and carried a datapad.[1]
Behind the scenes
The character was portrayed by Chanel Waddock in "One Year Later," the first episode of the second season of the live-action series Andor, which was released on Disney+[1] on April 22, 2025,[5] and was credited only as "Niya's coworker".[1] Her casting had been previously revealed on Waddock's listing on the website of their talent agency.[6]
