- "But this one… In the last 500 years, I've only known one student who built a saber such as this. Baylan Skoll."
- ―Huyang, to Ahsoka Tano on Baylan Skoll's lightsaber
Baylan Skoll's lightsaber was the personal lightsaber wielded by Jedi-turned-mercenary Baylan Skoll.
History
Baylan Skoll wields his blade against Ahsoka Tano
Baylan Skoll's lightsaber[4] was constructed by the human Baylan Skoll during his days as a student within the Jedi Order[1] during the late Republic Era. As a Jedi, Skoll fought in the Clone Wars as a Jedi General[3] and managed to survive the Great Jedi Purge, taking up the life of a mercenary instead. At least during his days as a mercenary, Skoll's blade had a orange-red blade.[5] Skoll also took on the human Shin Hati as his apprentice, training her to be more than the Jedi of old, at least in his opinion. In her capacity as his apprentice, she also wielded an orange-red blade.[3]
Around 9 ABY,[6] Skoll wielded his lightsaber throughout the search for the missing Grand Admiral Mitth'raw'nuruodo "Thrawn,"[5] who was lost on the extragalactic planet Peridea, where Skoll believed a great power was hiding.[3] First, in the attack on the New Republic starship Vesper he and Hati embarked upon to rescue[1] his employer and Thrawn's rescuer-to-be[3] Morgan Elsbeth, he used it to kill New Republic Captain Hayle and many Republic soldiers. Huyang, the architect droid who originally helped Skoll build his lightsaber, was able to identify the owner by a hologram of the hilt.[1] Skoll later used his lightsaber to duel Ahsoka Tano.[5] On Peridea, Skoll briefly wielded his lightsaber against Tano again before continuing on his own quest.[7]
Behind the scenes
Baylan Skoll's lightsaber first appeared in the teaser trailer of the Star Wars: Ahsoka television series, which debuted in August 2023.[8]
According to showrunner Dave Filoni, Skoll's lightsaber being orange-red instead of the traditional Sith red blade was intentional because he always felt as a kid that Darth Vader's lightsaber seemed to fluctuate from visual effects to being a little bit more orange, so he wished to not make a straight-up orange lightsaber, but a double-colored lightsaber so kids who watch the show may not come up with quick conclusions about Baylan Skoll's real allegiances.[9]

"A Certain Point of View" — Star Wars Insider 228 dates the events of "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" to nine years after Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 9 ABY per Star Wars: Timelines. Preceding episodes, also take place in that year, since they take place after Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, which is dated to 9 ABY according to Timelines. As "Part Eight: The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord" takes place shortly after Part Seven, the events of Ahsoka as a whole must all take place within the same year.
