Echo Three was the callsign of a Tauntaun patrol for the Alliance to Restore the Republic prior to the Battle of Hoth.
History
Luke Skywalker, when acting as a scout on Hoth, was assigned to this patrol to search for signs of life on the planet. He went missing shortly after signaling to Echo Seven that he was going to investigate a meteor impact near his location before heading back to the Rebel base.
After being ambushed by a wampa, Luke and his tauntaun were taken back to the beast's cave. The tauntaun was killed in the attack, but Luke managed to escape.
