- "Selligores are aquatic mammals native to the temperate and tropical waters of the planet Corsin, a planet once famed for its swoop races but now notorious for a rather brutal Imperial crackdown […]"
- ―Holobrochure for the Tagge Holographic Museum of Chandrila
Corsin was a beautiful Expansion Region planet located in the Greater Plooriod sector. Situated at the junction of the Hydian Way and Vaathkree Trade Corridor hyperspace routes, it had a warm climate in its tropical regions and was home to the large aquatic mammal selligore. The creatures fed on plants as well as small fish and plankton, and the Tinn'lyi nation, native to the planet's Tinn'lyi Islands, maintained a symbiotic relationship with them where the selligores were given gathered plants to eat in exchange for helping catch fish in large nets they dragged behind them.
Originally a subject world of the Infinite Empire, Corsin was raided by the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders during the conflict known as the Mandalorian Wars. Approximately three centuries later, the renowned bioanalyst Doctor Ronda was perished on Corsin when the shuttle he was on crash-landed. The Human future Jedi Nalia Adollu was born on the planet more than two millennia later. By 1004 BBY, Corsin had become a part of the Galactic Republic, and during the final phase of the New Sith Wars around that time, the Republic's Jedi Order was victorious over the Brotherhood of Darkness in an engagement at that world. Officers of the Republic's Planetary Security Forces met at the Corsin venue known as the Corsin Retreat after the Mandalorian Excision of 738 BBY to discuss best practices for coordinating action.
By the time of the Galactic Civil War, Corsin had become a liberal and free-thinking world that also hosted one of the most popular swoop races in the Greater Plooriod Cluster. While the reporter Voren Na'al was covering one such event, the Galactic Empire carried out a brutal subjugation of Corsin, with stormtroopers arresting Na'al and other journalists. While Na'al was spending three weeks in detention, Corsin's planetary government was replaced with a pro-Imperial regime.
The directives of Corsin's new government led to the infringement upon the natural habitats of the selligores. During the later fragmentation of the Empire, the planet fell within the territory controlled by Imperial warlord Zsinj, with the New Republic suffering a defeat there in 5 ABY. By 12 ABY, however, Corsin had been integrated into the New Republic's holdings, and a century later, the planet was a part of Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire.
Description
- "Selligores have long fed and lived along the coasts of their world, primarily surviving in shallow waters (less than 100 meters deep), with regular forays to the surface."
- ―Holobrochure for the Tagge Holographic Museum of Chandrila
Corsin was located in the Expansion Region, at the junction of the Hydian Way and the Vaathkree Trade Corridor.
Corsin was a terrestrial planet[3] located in the Corsin system, a part of the Greater Plooriod sector[1] in the Northern Dependencies portion of[2] the Expansion Region.[1] It was also located in the Greater Plooriod Cluster.[7]
By approximately 5000 BBY, Corsin was situated at the endpoint of the hyperspace routes known as the Corsin Run and the Mandalorian Road, which linked it to the Bogden and Ploo systems, respectively. At some point following approximately 3693 BBY, those routes became integrated into the galaxy-spanning Hydian Way super-hyperroute,[2] which connected Corsin to the Leafar system[1] as well as the Skorrupon system of the Mid Rim's Trans-Vulta sector.[8] In addition, the hyperlane known as the Vaathkree Trade Corridor linked it to the Inner Rim's Comkin system,[2] while another hyperspace route connected Corsin to[1] the Ploo sector.[9] Corsin's orbit was such that forty-five local years were approximately equivalent to forty-two years.[3] A light-colored celestial body loomed large in the planet's sky.[1]
Corsin was home to the aquatic mammals known as selligores.
Corsin was a beautiful world, the surface of which featured landmasses and oceans,[5] with its tropical regions having a warm climate[4] and dry land being home to plants.[3] The planet's temperate and tropical waters were home to the aquatic mammal selligore, which was a more-than-twenty-meters-long creature that fed on small fish, plankton, and oxygenating plants. Selligores had long lived along the coasts of Corsin. They could survive in deep waters and briefly also on land but primarily inhabited shallow waters at depths of less than one hundred meters. Although selligore herds normally remained within their territory, some of them occasionally undertook once-in-a-generation migrations, usually due to their feeding grounds being infringed on. Generally, selligores avoided Corsin's traditional population; however, an exception was the creatures' relationship with the inhabitants of the Tinn'lyi Islands.[3]
History
Perils of Corsin
- "Spacers' tales told of massive Mandalorian war fleets lurking in the dark beyond the Rim, but for a decade the Republic did little but watch and wait, even as Neo-Crusader raids imperiled worlds from Corsin to Azure."
- ―Vilnau Tept, 412th Proceedings of Galactic Anthropology and History
The Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders (banner pictured) raided Corsin during the Mandalorian Wars.
Between approximately 30,000 BBY and 25,200 BBY, Corsin was under the control of the Infinite Empire of the Unknown Regions' Rakata species. Space surrounding the planet was explored by the Galactic Republic between 8000 BBY and 5500 BBY, and by approximately 5000 BBY, Corsin was considered a part of the "civilized," or well-explored, portion of the galaxy.[2] As was later noted by Vilnau Teupt in the keynote address "Industry, Honor, Savagery: Shaping the Mandalorian Soul" at Brentaal Academy's 412th Proceedings of Galactic Anthropology and History in 24 ABY, Corsin was among the worlds beyond the Republic's borders that were raided by the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders movement of the Mandalorian warrior culture between 3976 BBY and 3960 BBY as part of the Mandalorian Wars.[1]
Around 3643 BBY,[10] a shuttle carrying the renowned bioanalyst Doctor Ronda crash-landed on Corsin, killing the scientist. An individual affiliated with one of the sides in the ongoing struggle between the Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire subsequently dispatched a companion to investigate the crash, with the latter individual retrieving from the wreckage of the shuttle remarkable specimens from Ronda's latest research.[11]
A Republic world
- "While Ominaz won't see action until the Stassia Classic, Arrogantus will look to claim the top seed next month on Corsin at the Plooriod 940."
- ―HoloNet News report
Darth Zannah (pictured) impersonated the Jedi Nalia Adollu of Corsin.
The Force-sensitive female[4] Human[13] Nalia Adollu was born in the tropical regions of Corsin[4] around 1010 BBY,[14] eventually traveling off-world and becoming a member of the Republic's Jedi Order.[4] Approximately twenty years later,[15] when the Sith Lord Darth Zannah infiltrated the Jedi Temple on the Core Worlds planet Coruscant, she memorized Adollu's origin on Corsin as part of the process of impersonating her.[4] Corsin had become a part of Republic space by 1004 BBY, and at some point between that year and 1000 BBY, during the final phase of the millennium-long New Sith Wars, the Jedi Order emerged victorious over the Brotherhood of Darkness in a confrontation at Corsin.[2]
Officers of the Galactic Republic's Planetary Security Forces met at Corsin Retreat.
After the operation known as the Mandalorian Excision of 738 BBY, marshals and admirals of the Planetary Security Forces of the Republic's member worlds met on Corsin, at an establishment known as the Corsin Retreat, in order to discuss best practices for coordinating action among the security forces.[1] Centuries later, on the date 13:5:2, an issue of the CoCo District Edition of the HoloNet News noted the upcoming Plooriod 940 swoop race that was set to take place on Corsin in the following month.[12] During the first campaigns of the Clone Wars in 22 BBY, the Third Army of the Republic was tasked with engaging the military forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems in Corsin's vicinity, and three years later, the planet fell within the borders of the Galactic Empire.[1]
Regime change
- "While Corsin's prior government established large habitats for the animals, the current Imperial regime has chosen not to prosecute violations of the statutes and is authorizing development of some habitat areas."
- ―Holobrochure for the Tagge Holographic Museum of Chandrila
Voren Na'al experienced the Galactic Empire's crackdown on Corsin.
During the early stages of the Galactic Civil War, Corsin hosted an annual swoop race that was one of the most popular such events in the Greater Plooriod Cluster. At one point during that time, the Human Galactic News Service reporter Voren Na'al was covering the race on Corsin. Excited at his assignment, he was watching the opening match of the race among other reporters in a press area. At that time,[6] as part of a brutal[3] Imperial subjugation of the planet,[5] a platoon of Imperial stormtroopers entered the press area and promptly arrested all the reporters with no explanation provided.[6]
Over the following three weeks, while Na'al and the other journalists were in detention,[6] the Empire forcibly deposed[16] Corsin's entire planetary government, replaced it with a pro-Imperial regime,[6] and instituted a military occupation.[5] Civil rights of the planet's population were rescinded, and it was submitted to the presence of military police.[16] After Na'al's release from detention—which was never justified to him—he was disturbed by the Imperial crackdown and its silencing of journalists; and as a result he eventually joined the Rebel Alliance.[6] Corsin eventually gained a measure of notoriety for its Imperial subjugation.[3]
Although the previous government of Corsin had designated extensive territories as habitats for the planet's selligore creatures, the pro-Imperial regime did not prosecute violations of the statutes concerning those habitats, and furthermore, it sanctioned the development of some of those areas. As a result, the selligores had access to shrinking territories where they could roam and feed, leading to a number of attacks on Humans and members of other sentient species. Several scientist attempted to persuaded Corsin's ruling regime to protect the selligores, using the special relationship between the creatures and the Tinn'lyi nation of the planet's Tinn'lyi Islands as an example of the benefits of such a course of action. Corsin was eventually mentioned in an entry of a holobrochure for the Tagge Holographic Museum of[3] the Core Worlds planet[17] Chandrila dedicated to the selligore.[3]
After the Empire
Corsin was a part of Zsinj's Empire.
During the beginning of the Empire's fragmentation in the aftermath of the Battle of Endor of 4 ABY, Corsin became a part of the holdings of the Imperial warlord Zsinj. In the following year, the New Republic suffered a defeat to Zsinj's forces at Corsin, and the world remained under the warlord's control until 8 ABY. Corsin was located within the core territory of the confederation of Imperial forces led by Grand Admiral Thrawn in 9 ABY, and it still lay within Imperial Space between 10 ABY and 11 ABY.[2]
Between 12 ABY and 13 ABY, Corsin was situated within the territory of the New Republic.[1] At some point between 25 ABY and 26 ABY, the Corsin system was conquered by the extragalactic Yuuzhan Vong species as part of its invasion of the galaxy. It remained under the invaders' control until at least 27 ABY. By 137 ABY, Corsin was part of the Galactic Empire ruled by the Sith Lord Darth Krayt.[2]
Inhabitants
- "The Tinn'lyis will gather rich plant life and leave it on shore, while certain members of the Tinn'lyi nation will assist the selligores as they drag large nets behind them, scooping up large quantities of fish."
- ―Holobrochure for the Tagge Holographic Museum of Chandrila
Corsin claimed to be the birthplace of the hintaro game (pictured).
Corsin's Tinn'lyi Islands were home to the nation known as the Tinn'lyi. They maintained a symbiotic relationship with the planet's selligore animals. It involved the Tinn'lyi leaving ashore abundant amounts of plants for the creatures. In return, the selligores, assisted by the Tinn'lyi dragged large nets behind them, in the process collecting large quantities of fish for the native people to eat. The relationship had been the focus of extensive research by biologists.[3]
By the time of the Galactic Civil War, Corsin had long been considered a liberal and free-thinking world[6] and was known for its populace's love of life.[16] Before the Galactic Empire's crackdown on the world, the advocacy for freedom and peace from some of the members of its planetary government was comparable to that of[6] the Core Worlds[2] planet Alderaan.[6]
Although both Corsin and Chazwa,[18] an Inner Rim[19] planet, claimed they were the birthplace of the dice game hintaro, the game eventually became popular on many worlds, and it was more likely that the game evolved out of several similar games with different points of origin.[18] Around 25 ABY, the population of the Corsin system numbered between one hundred and five hundred million.[2]
Locations
- "Selligores have largely remained apart from Corsin's traditional population. One exception to this are the natives of the Tinn'lyi Islands, who have long maintained a supportive relationship with these animals."
- ―Holobrochure for the Tagge Holographic Museum of Chandrila
Corsin was the site of the Tinn'lyi Islands.[3] The establishment known as the Corsin Retreat was also located on the planet. It was situated near a body of water and featured decorative plants, with lanes of aerial vehicles traversing above the retreat.[1]
Behind the scenes
Corsin was first mentioned in the 1989 sourcebook Galaxy Guide 1: A New Hope, which was written by Grant S. Boucher and published by West End Games for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[6] The planet was visually depicted for the first time in an illustration by Peter Venters included in the 1994 Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game sourcebook Creatures of the Galaxy.[3] The planet's first full appearance came in the 1998 video game Star Wars: Rebellion, which depicted it via an image also used to illustrate thirteen other worlds in the game.[5] Corsin was mentioned in a Bionanalysis Crew Skill mission of Star Wars: The Old Republic, a 2011 video game developed by BioWare, though the information regarding the mission's outcome was later removed from the game.[11]
Voyages SF 13 placed Corsin in the Tolonda sector.
"Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, How I Wonder Where We Are," a 1990 roleplaying game source article published in Voyages SF 13, placed the Corsin system, and therefore Corsin itself, in the Tolonda sector. Since the article was released outside of the Lucas Licensing process, its canonicity within the Star Wars Legends continuity was never confirmed.[20] Star Wars: Rebellion later placed Corsin in the "Sesswenna sector,"[5] a misspelling of the Seswenna sector. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed Corsin in grid square M-7,[2] and the StarWars.com Online Companion to the book eventually overrode both the Voyages SF 13 and Star Wars: Rebellion placements by instead establishing that the system was situated in the Greater Plooriod sector.[21]
Corsin was mentioned in Return of the Padawan, Jeffrey Brown's 2014 second installment in the Star Wars: Jedi Academy series of non-canonical young-reader books. In the book, the Human Padawan Roan Novachez of the Coruscant Jedi Academy, while preparing to visit his classmate Pasha's homeworld of Obroa-skai during spring break[22] around 195 BBY,[23] notes directions for traveling there on a sheet of paper. The notes instruct to travel "a bunch of parsecs" along the Hydian Way away from the Core Worlds until Corsin is reached, at which point one must "turn right," transferring to a route[22]—the Vaathkree Trade Corridor[2]—leading to Obroa-skai.[22]
