- "Zaloriis formally declares its independence!"
- ―Minister Transe Decar
The Askarian sector was a sector in the Expansion Region. It contained the Hasaq and Zaloriis systems, which lay on the Nanth'ri Trade Route hyperlane, and also held the Askaria, Knooda, and Xandonia systems. Parts of the Askarian sector, including the Hasaq system, were held by Darth Revan's Sith Empire during the Jedi Civil War between 3959 to 3956 BBY. During the Galactic Civil War, prior to the Battle of Hoth in 3 ABY, the Human Zalorian inhabitants of the planet Zaloriis rebelled against the Galactic Empire but were defeated by the Sith Lord Darth Vader.
Description
The Askarian sector was a space sector located within The Slice portion of the galaxy's Expansion Region. The northern reaches of the sector shared a four-way border with the Harron Marches, Serathrace, and Hangshan sectors. Its eastern reaches intersected at another four-way border with the Hocatar, Authala, and Nuon e Safyd sectors, the latter of which bordered all of the Askarian sector's southern border. The sector was also bordered by the Circarpous and Harron sectors on its eastern reaches, which also intersected at the border with the Harron Marches.[1] The Nanth'ri Trade Route hyperlane[3] passed through the Askarian sector through its border with the Circarpous sector,[1] linking Askarian's Hasaq[3] and Zaloriis systems with the Circarpous system in its eponymous sector and with the Attahox system in the Hocatar sector.[1]
In addtion to the Hasaq and Zaloriis system, the Askarian sector contained within it the Askaria, Knooda, and Xandonia systems.[2] The Hasaq system[2] contained an orange-colored sun.[5] The Zaloriis system contained the desolate desert planet Zaloriis.[4]
History

Between 3959 to 3956 BBY, during the Jedi Civil War, territory within the Askarian sector, including the Hasaq sysem, was held by Darth Revan's Sith Empire.[3] Millennia later, the Galactic Empire conducted secret development of the All Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT) on Zaloriis, overseen by Colonel Maximilian Veers. During the Galactic Civil War, and prior to the Battle of Hoth[4] in 3 ABY,[3] the Zalorian Separatists, led by Zalor Minister Transe Decar, joined forces with the Alliance to Restore the Republic to defect from the Empire. Decar avoided paying Zaloriis's monthly tribute to the Empire, which attracted the attention of the Sith Lord Darth Vader. He travelled to the Zaloriis system and, after overcoming a trap set by Decar, destroyed the rebels. Vader and Veers then departed the system to continue searching for the rebel base.[4]
Inhabitants
- "I have to tell you, of all the assassins they've sent after me, and there've been quite a few—flesh-eating nano-bots, brain-snipers from Latza VII, a Xandonian night terror—you two are the worst."
- ―The pirate Attuma Duum, to cult leader Shon-Ju and Jedi Knight Aayla Secura
A type of assassin called a Xandonian night terror[6] originated in the Xandonia system.[7] The Zaloriis system was inhabited by the Human Zalorians.[4]
Behind the scenes
The Askarian sector was first mentioned in a map illustrated by Modi in the Expansion Region edition of The Essential Atlas Online Companion, published on October 26, 2012. The map placed the sector in grid squares O-11, O-12, P-11 & P-12,[2] and included the Zaloriis system within the sector, which had previously appeared in the 2001 LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, retroactively establishing it as the first appearance of the Askarian sector.[4]

(backup link) (screenshot) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas, stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. Given this principle, this article makes a similar basic assumption for Xandonian night terrors in relation to the Xandonia system.
