- "See, this was supposed to be a new neighborhood development. Grandpa told me all about it. Something went wrong with the sewage substation. Whole thing filled up with poison gas. Didn't kill them, though, just made them crazy. They started to eat each other. There was no choice. They had to bury them alive, trapped underground forever."
- ―Fern, on her grandpa's story
A male individual was the grandfather of the human girl Fern from the isolated planet At Attin.[1]
Around 9 ABY,[2] Fern and[1] her[3] friend KB argued with the boys Wim and Neel about who a starship buried in the woods should belong to. With Wim believing the vessel to be a Jedi temple, Fern claimed to have heard from her grandfather that the construction was supposed to be a new neighborhood development. Her grandfather had allegedly recounted to her a story involving construction workers. Following a system failure, the workers would have been intoxicated with poison gas. Although they had survived, she claimed the substance had made them go crazy, leaving no choice but to bury them alive in what in fact was a buried ship.[1]
Behind the scenes
Fern's grandfather was first mentioned in "This Could Be a Real Adventure,"[1] the first episode of the Star Wars: Skeleton Crew live-action television series, which premiered on December 2, 2024.[4]

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew — "This Could Be a Real Adventure"
- ↑ Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian" of The Mandalorian Season One to 9 ABY. In addition,
"A Certain Point of View" — Star Wars Insider 228 also dates "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" to nine years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 9 ABY per Timelines. "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" takes place after the conflict on Mandalore, which is the main event depicted in "Chapter 23: The Spies" and "Chapter 24: The Return," the final two episodes of The Mandalorian Season Three. Therefore, Seasons One through Three of Star Wars: The Mandalorian must all be set in 9 ABY as well.
SWCA 2022: 20 Highlights from Lucasfilm's Studio Showcase on StarWars.com (backup link) states that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew takes place in the same timeframe as Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Ahsoka—the latter of which can also be dated to 9 ABY following the reasoning here. As such, Skeleton Crew must take place around 9 ABY as well.
