"Feral, try not to draw attention to yourself."
"That won't be a problem for me, Savage."
―Savage Opress attempts to keep Feral out of trouble[1]

Feral was a male Dathomirian Zabrak member of the Nightbrothers, a group of warriors subservient to the Nightsister clan of witches native to the planet Dathomir. He was the younger brother of Savage Opress and Darth Maul, and a son of Nightsister leader, Mother Talzin. During the Clone Wars, Feral was among those chosen by Nightsister Asajj Ventress to become her champion in her campaign of vengeance against her former Sith Master, Count Dooku. Feral survived the tests with Savage's help, but ultimately Savage was chosen as the champion, and soon thereafter as a test of loyalty, Talzin made Savage kill Feral.

Feral with his brother, Savage Opress

Born on the[4] Outer Rim Territories[7] planet[8] Dathomir[4] sometime after 54 BBY,[2] Feral was the son of Mother Talzin,[6] leader of the Nightsister clan of Dathomirian witches.[4] The youngest of three brothers, Feral's two older brothers were Maul and Savage Opress.[9] Around 40 BBY,[10] Maul was taken from Talzin by the Sith Lord Darth Sidious who originally promised to make Talzin his Sith apprentice. Talzin swore revenge on the Sith[11] and Savage grew up without knowledge of his other brother's existence.[12]

Growing up absent from their brother, Savage and Feral passed the necessary rituals to become members of the Nightbrothers, a group of male Dathomirian warriors subservient to the Nightsisters, and lived in the Nightbrother village where they trained.[9] Part of the clan led by Brother Viscus,[1] Savage eventually obtained a leadership position and shared his responsibilities with Feral,[13] who he took care of and protected.[14]

Selection and Death

In 20 BBY,[15] during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems, Nightsister Asajj Ventress visited the Nightbrothers to find a champion, one who could be given advanced strength and power through magick to aid her in her quest for vengeance against her former master, Count Dooku. A number of Nightbrothers were chosen to participate in the tests designed to find Ventress' champion.[1]

With Savage's help, Feral survived all three tests. Savage pleaded for mercy for his brother, and Feral was spared despite failing in the final challenge. Savage became the champion and was taken by Ventress and given enhanced strength and power, enough to rival that of a Jedi Knight. Shortly thereafter, Feral was taken prisoner by the Nightsisters and brought before his brother so Savage could kill him as a test of loyalty and strength.[1] Upon seeing Savage's swelled up muscles and rage from Talzin's magicks,[4] Feral looked up in shock at his brother. He tried to appeal to Savage's love for him, but his brother's mind had become twisted by the Nightsister magick. Savage, disgusted by Feral's weakness, ignored the pleas. At Ventress' command, and with only a moment's hesitation, Savage grabbed Feral and used his newfound strength to break Feral's neck, snuffing out his brother's life and passing his final test.[1]

Personality and traits

Feral was a Dathomirian Zabrak male,[1] who was 1.86 meters, or 6 feet, 1 inch tall,[4] with yellow eyes and yellow skin with brown tattoos. He was the younger brother of Savage Opress and Maul.[5] Feral was often confident and optimistic in spite of his chances, often shrugging off Savage's warnings, believing himself to be a vigilant warrior. However, he quickly learned of his combat faults in his first fight against Asajj Ventress. During the Selection, Savage was able to repeatedly protect Feral, but Feral's reliance on Savage would be his undoing as he was killed by Savage's bare hands after his display of weakness.[1]

Skills and abilities

Feral was a powerful warrior, skilled in martial arts. His agility[4] also helped keep him alive for most of the Selection, as he was able to dodge the weapons of Ventress and other competitors, as well as move quickly leap across the ledges during the final challenge.[1]

Equipment

Feral wore simple rags matching those of his Nightbrother brethren and wielded crude, archaic weaponry.[1]

Behind the scenes

Feral first appeared in "Monster,"[1] the thirteenth episode in the third season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, which released on January 14, 2011.[16] Feral was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.[1]
