In 232 BBY[1] during the High Republic Era, an Emergence of the Great Hyperspace Disaster occurred in the Eriadu system of the Outer Rim Territories. Nihil Tempest Runner Kassav Milliko, who had been given data on upcoming Emergences by Eye of the Nihil Marchion Ro, attempted to use the Emergence to extort credits from Eriaduan Governor Mural Veen, promising to destroy the incoming hyperspace debris if she paid up. After several transports carrying lommite ore were destroyed by debris, and with the news that the next debris would strike Eriadu's inhabited moon, Veen reluctantly paid Milliko the fifty million credits he had demanded. However, the crew of Milliko's flagship New Elite was unable to reach and destroy the debris in time and it struck the moon, causing many deaths. The Eriaduans had extensively scanned Milliko's starship before he was forced to retreat, which allowed the Galactic Republic to identify him. Veen swore vengeance upon Milliko, eventually personally killing the pirate during the Battle of Kur.[2]

The Emergence resulted in a heavy bombing of Eriadu City,[3] leading the reactor that powered up the region containing Eriadu City and Bri-Phrang City to become fractured, leaving the possibility that half of the planet could be wiped out with a disturbance or explosion.[4] After Eriadu was later engulfed by the Nihil's Occlusion Zone, Tragkul Tarkin, a member of the Tarkin family with an anti-Republic agenda, recalled the bombing at a meeting of the Quintad, attempting to further his agenda by questioning Republic representatives on where the Republic had been when the city had been bombed.[3]
