Emerald Lance was a modified YV-330 light freighter.[1]

Externally, the Emerald Lance looked like a typical YV-330 freighter, but it had been extensively refitted as a clandestine warship. The idea was that the ship would appear to be a tempting target for pirates, but when they tried to attack, it would ambush and destroy them with its hidden weaponry. [1]

The armament included two fire-linked, turret-mounted heavy laser cannon, four forward-firing ion cannons and an autoblaster. There was also a powerful concussion missile salvo concealed in the sides of the hull, comprising four fire-linked launchers with three missiles each.[1]

Compared to a stock YV-330, the Emerald Lance also had faster engines, a more powerful deflector, and an enhanced sensor package. The new sensor array was the only externally obvious modification, as it was a standard upgrade package for the type.[1]

Alongside its concealed combat capability, the Emerald Lance also retained a reasonably large hold, as the ability to carry genuine cargo made it appear a more convincing and tempting target to watching pirates. However, the weight limit for the hold was just five metric tons, and the ship's cargo capacity was not large enough for it to function effectively as a legitimate freighter.[1]

Instead, the ship had once served with the Corellian Security Force, although by 0 ABY, it had been sold to a group of freelance pirate hunters.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Emerald Lance appears in Star Wars Gamer 2. A twin-barrelled chin turret is visible in the illustration, but it is not explained how these guns relate to the heavier concealed armament specified in the accompanying text.[1]
