A pack of charhounds was from[1] the Outer Rim[2] world Elphrona and lived during the High Republic Era.[1] By 232 BBY,[3] the pack was made up of two big charhounds and a number of small charhounds including the female puppy Ember. At one point, a spike-sparrow killed all of the pack except for Ember, who fought the spike-sparrow afterward. Ember crawled away from the fight and eventually became part of a new pack after coming to be owned by the human Jedi Bell Zettifar.[1] Around 228 BBY,[4] Ember mentally recalled her first pack and the event in which they were killed—which she called the Bad Hurt Time—when she reflected on her life while on[1] the Wild Space[5] planet Sophros.[1]
Behind the scenes
Ember's first pack was mentioned in the 2025 novel The High Republic: Trials of the Jedi, written by Charles Soule as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[6]

- ↑ The High Republic: Trials of the Jedi establishes the Bad Hurt Time took place before Ember came to be owned by Bell Zettifar. As Zettifar owns Ember during the events of The High Republic: Light of the Jedi—which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia dates the events of to 232 BBY—the Bad Hurt Time must have occurred by that year.
- ↑ Chapters 24–37 of The High Republic: Trials of the Jedi take place shortly after the Battle of Eriadu, which takes place in 228 BBY per the reasoning here.
