- "Now more than ever, your homeworld needs the guidance of a leader who is astute in both politics and galactic economics."
- ―Sheev Palpatine, to Wilhuff Tarkin
Economics was a science that studied the allocation of resources.[2]
Behind the scenes
Economics was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in James Luceno's 2014 novel Tarkin.[1] The science's first full appearance was marked by the economist Kriz Tray's featuring in Beth Revis's 2022 novel The Princess and the Scoundrel.[3] Economics was originally introduced in the Star Wars Legends continuity in the Imperial Sourcebook, a 1989 supplement written by Greg Gorden and published by West End Games for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[4] In the real world, economics is a science that studies the general concepts of production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services.[5]
