"Duracrete slug. About ten meters long, by the look of him. They burrow into the stone. Best to keep an eye out."
Keets Freely to Trever Flume[2]

Having been spread throughout the galaxy by freighters and cargo ships, duracrete slugs were large silica parasite mollusks that dug tunnels into building foundations and fed off the duracrete therein, although indigestible concrete was also eaten. This was then excreted on to the skin, forming armor. Duracrete slugs were virtually blind, but had feelers capable of sensing rock layers. While their average length was three to five meters, some specimens on Coruscant were known to reach ten meters in length, especially in the Coruscant underlevels.[1] They were very similar in appearance to the duracrete worms.

Behind the scenes

The species was created by concept sculptor Robert E. Barnes in collaboration with author David West Reynolds for the reference book Star Wars: Attack of the Clones: The Visual Dictionary.[3]

According to Robert E. Barnes the duracrete slug is a "species-shift" from the duracrete worm in the The Wildlife of Star Wars: A Field Guide book by Terryl Whitlatch. With the main difference between the two being that instead of having a soft/slimy skin, the duracrete slug has an armored skin developed from consuming and excreting duracrete and also is also bigger.[3]
