The double bass was a type of musical instrument consisting of four strings pulled along the length of a billfish beak and down over a skin stretched across a wooden body. The wooden body of the instrument was then supported on three legs made of bone. The double bass was played with a bow consisting of a piece of string tied between the two ends of a curved stick. The instrument was made by members of the Lanai species on their homeworld Ahch-To, and the inhabitants of the Caretaker village on Temple Island owned one.[1]
Behind the scenes
A double bass was created to be a part of the film Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi;[1] however, the scene they appeared in was ultimately cut before the final release.[2] Despite this, the instrument still appeared in Star Wars: The Last Jedi: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book written by Pablo Hidalgo[1] and released alongside the film on December 15, 2017.[3]
The double bass (also called the contrabass) is a real instrument, but has a very different appearance.
