Disguised Clone Troopers[2] were members of the 501st Legion who donned Jedi apparel during[3] and after the siege of the Jedi Temple in order to ambush any surviving Jedi who ventured to the Jedi Temple.[1] Those troopers who adopted the garb were highly skilled in ambush tactics and successfully took down a number of approaching Jedi, who never reached close enough to see through their disguises.[4] Proving to be more hurtful to him than the damage done to the building itself, the sight was distressing to Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, who infiltrated the Temple alongside Grand Master Yoda.[1] After fighting through the 501st troopers outside the building,[5] the Jedi made their way into the building and evaded the internal patrols, only to be greeted with the carnage of the 501st's attack, a sight that hurt Kenobi even more than the damage and Disguised Clone Troopers had.[1]

Disguised Clone Troopers first appeared in canon through the French novelization of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, Revenge of the Sith - The Film Novel.[1] In their first pictured appearance, they later appeared as a playable character in the video game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes and were first identified there as "Disguised Clone Troopers."[2] According to the Kit Reveal for their appearance in Galaxy of Heroes, they were added into the game to provide more clones who were visually distinct yet still present for the events of Operation: Knightfall.[3]

The concept of the Disguised Clone Troopers was considered for Revenge of the Sith and were featured in a deleted scene, in which Kenobi and Yoda approach the Jedi Temple and are greeted by several clones pretending to be Jedi who have recaptured the Temple. Quickly seeing through the act, Kenobi and Yoda fight through the detachment. An early animation of this scene was included in the 2011 Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray collectio.[7] A production photo of a blaster-wielding Temuera Morrison, the actor for clone troopers, in the Jedi disguise garb was also taken and featured within the Revenge of the Sith DVD shows.[8] Despite being cut from the film, the Disguised Clone Troopers appeared within the film's novelization through the members of Decoy Squad Five[9] and were mentioned within issue four of its comic book adaption.[10] The Kit Reveal for Galaxy of Heroes makes reference to Decoy Squad Five and its role in the novelization.[3]
