Di Mantid was a Human female from the planet Coruscant. Mantid and her acquaintances Nyrat Agira and Wilst Molan visted the Outlander Club in the Uscru Entertainment District of the planet, seeking out a rich and powerful mate. In 22 BBY, she was in the club at the same time as bounty hunters Jango Fett and Zam Wesell. Shortly after, she was with her acquaintances in the club on the night that Wesell ran into the club trying to escape from the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.
Biography
Di Mantid was a Human female native to[1] the planet[2] Coruscant[1] who was a connoisseur of fashion[3] and a participant in Coruscant's party scene.[4] Around 22 BBY,[5] Mantid frequented the Outlander Club,[1] a nightclub and gambling hall located in the Uscru Entertainment District of Coruscant.[6] Mantid and[3] her[1] acquaintances Nyrat Agira and Wilst Molan formed a regular group that visited the club in hopes of finding a rich and powerful mate.[3] In 22 BBY,[7] Mantid was inside the Outlander Club at the same time as the bounty hunters Jango Fett and Zam Wesell.[8] During a night[9] in that same year,[7] Mantid, Agira, and Molan were inside the Outlander Club. At the club, she attempted to surpass the efforts of Agira's look. While her outfit was eye-catching, it was not competition to Agira's.[3]
Di Mantid walked past Anakin Skywalker.
As the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker entered the club, searching for Wesell, who had ran into the club trying to escape from the Jedi, Mantid talked to two Humans near one of[9] the club's turbolifts[2] before walking away from them. While Skywalker looked for Wesell in the club, Mantid walked past him with a drink in hand. As Wesell was being taken out of the club after being disarmed, Mantid stood at the bar of the club, between a Human and a Klatooinian and stared at Skywalker. Mantid then turned to look at the Human.[9]
Personality and traits
Mantid was acquainted with Nyrat Agira and Wilst Molan. While the three appeared to be friends, they were in fierce competition with each other for the unofficial title of "best dressed Outlander patron," a title Agira often won.[3] Mantid had light skin and brown eyes.[1] Her feminine first name and her surname were of Human origin.[10]
Equipment
Mantid usually wore heavy facial makeup, which included blue lipstick and silver rouge.[1] While at the Outlander Club, Mantid wore a sleeveless dress made from wroosha fabric,[11] black gloves, black pants, black shoes,[3] mascara,[11] silver rouge, grey-blue lip paint,[3] and a blonde wig made from Human hair.[12] While the outfit was eye-catching, it was no serious competition to Agira's outfit.[3]
Behind the scenes
- "Prominent in publicity stills and in the introduction to the “From Now On" On Location segment, Di Mantid is tough to glimpse in the film itself. Look for her over Obi-Wan's shoulder as Elan Sleazebaggano begins his spiel."
- ―Daniel Wallace
Di Mantid appeared in Jango Fett: Bounty Hunter prior to her film appearance.
Di Mantid was created for the prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones,[9] which was released on May 16, 2002.[13] The Outlander Club scenes, where Mantid was portrayed by an uncredited extra, were shot at Fox Studios, Sydney on July 17, 2000.[14] The extra playing Di Mantid, in costume, introduced the fourteenth episode of the Episode II behind-the-scenes video series on location.[15] The episode, titled "From Now On," was released on October 31, 2000.[16]
Prior to the film's release, Mantid was identified in the StarWars.com article "Making Up is Hard to Do: Lesley Vanderwalt," which was published on February 15, 2002.[17] The character first appeared in illustrations in the upcoming films' storybook, written by Jane Mason and Sarah Hines Stephens;[18] its young readers book Jango Fett: Bounty Hunter, written by Eric Arnold and illustrated by Valerie Reckert;[8] and the film's junior novelization, written by Patricia C. Wrede. All three books were released on April 23, 2002.[19] The images of her in Jango Fett: Bounty Hunter and the junior novelization were taken from the then-upcoming film.[9]
In the April 6, 2004[20] article "Who's Who in the Outlander Club: It's Ladies' Night," published in the seventy-fifth issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine, author Daniel Wallace described Mantid as hard to glimpse in the film and that the character had enough mascara to rival Tammy Faye Bakker.[11]
