"Why don't you add 'em to the pot? Sweeten things up a bit."
―Wes Janson encouraging Norra Wexley to bet her Devaronian cherries during a sabacc game[1]

Devaronian cherries were a rare and expensive chocolate-coated dessert that had a tart sweetness with a chocolatey tang.[1] The cherries shared their name with the Devaronian species.[3] During the Galactic Civil War,[1] the human[2] rebel pilot Norra Wexley saved up enough credits to purchase a bag of one hundred cherries, savoring them over the course of five months.[1]

The day before the Alliance was set to attack the Galactic Empire's second Death Star battle station[1] in 4 ABY,[4] Wexley joined fellow pilots Lando Calrissian, Wedge Antilles, Wes Janson, Zyrka Tuhn, and a Kel Dor in a game of sabacc, eating two cherries throughout the game and noting that she only had ten remaining. Although she was teased about having the cherries and encouraged to use them to bet, with Janson specifically keen on winning the desserts, Wexley held off until late in the game, finally betting the cherries.[1]

Behind the scenes

Devaronian cherries appeared in "The Buy-In," a short story written by Suzanne Walker as part of the 2023 anthology From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi.[1]
