A descent cable was a type of grappling hook used during the Third Galactic War.[1] Around 3623 BBY,[2] one was in the Charred Divide on Elom, used by Talos Drellik's excavation team to reach Darth Nul's Laboratory.[1] Another was at the ruins of Emperor's Fortress on Ilum, used by Doctor Farrus Belisk's survey team to descend to the fortress' lower levels, then later used by the Alliance Commander and Lana Beniko.[3]

Descent cables first appeared in the Galactic Threads storyline released in Game Update 7.8: Pursuit of Ruin, released on December 9, 2025, as part of Star Wars: The Old Republic: Legacy of the Sith,[4] the eighth digital expansion to the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Star Wars: The Old Republic.[5]
