The Dentarian Ripple was an alcoholic beverage with a strong odor[3] that originated in[2] the Dentaria system of the Expansion Region's Dentari sector.[1] It had an intoxicating effect on members of the sentient Wookiee species.[3]
During the Galactic Civil War, the partner of the Wookiee[3] freelance pilot[4] Gaartatha was enslaved by a Galactic Empire press gang. While Gaartatha was subsequently looking for possible help in rescuing his companion,[3] he consoled himself[4] by indulging in alcoholic beverages at a cantina that catered to members of various species, where he imbibed several Dentarian Ripples.[3]
At one point, the Rebel Alliance trooper Stannik Nhaa, who was looking for a way to travel off the planet hosting the cantina, entered the establishment in search of the smuggler D'Voras Brin. Nhaa encountered Gaartatha lurking near the cantina's door and noticed him smelling of the consumed Dentarian Ripples, deciding to avoid the drunken Wookiee.[3]
Behind the scenes
The Dentarian Ripple was introduced in Star Wars Gamemaster Handbook, a 1993 sourcebook published by West End Games for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. In the book, the beverage was mentioned in an example gameplay passage that illustrated the possible description of characters controlled by the gamemaster player.[3] The inclusion of[4] the part of[3] the scene mentioning the Dentarian Ripple in 2008's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia rendered its existence fully canonical with respect to the Star Wars Legends continuity,[4] and this article assumes the entire scenario plays out as described.[3]

(backup link) (screenshot) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas, stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. Given this principle, this article makes a similar basic assumption for the Dentarian Ripple in relation to the Dentaria system.
