Damask Holdings was a company that operated during the Republic Era. In 65 BBY, Damask Holdings and the Naboo people entered a joint venture to establish a plasma refinery complex on the Mid Rim planet Naboo. After the Outer Rim Construction and Assembly company completed its construction, Naboo's Senator Sheev Palpatine hosted an opening ceremony for the complex at some point after his election to the Galactic Senate in 52 BBY. Before the start of the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems in 22 BBY, Damask Holdings also established a base on the volcanic and mineral-rich Outer Rim Territories planet Mustafar.

Description

Damask Holdings was a company that carried out plasma refining operations.[2]

History

A joint venture

Damask Holdings operated during the Republic Era.[2] At some point, evidence of a vast plasma source below the cliff face of the world's capital city, Theed, was discovered. The Naboo people of the Mid Rim planet Naboo, who had been sourcing their power primarily from a series of outlying mines,[3] opted to enter a joint venture with Damask Holdings to expand plasma refining on the planet.[2]

In 65 BBY,[4] Damask Holdings—along with the company Outer Rim Construction and Assembly—helped initiate the construction of a plasma refinery complex on the Cliffs of Theed,[2] located strategically within the Theed Royal Palace's Theed Hangar. As the company's complex featured highly efficient generators, which provided more power than the city could use, the facility also maintained the capacity to export plasma produced in excess. Following the refinery complex's opening ceremonies,[3] which occurred after Senator Sheev Palpatine's election to the Galactic Senate in 52 BBY,[5] the establishment enriched Naboo and became a popular tourist attraction. The ceremony was hosted by Palpatine, who was secretly a Sith Lord with the title of Darth Sidious.[3]

Continued operations

Though the factory was a joint venture between Damask Holdings and the Naboo people,[2] its day-to-day operations were managed by personnel from the Plasma Energy Engineering unit of the Royal Naboo Security Forces.[3] However, the plasma refinery's continued operation posed a threat to the profits of another increasingly disgruntled company operating on the world: the Trade Federation. These tensions eventually led the Trade Federation—under Palpatine's heavy influence—to blockade Naboo in 32 BBY. However, the blockade dissolved shortly afterward due to the defeat of the company's forces at the hands of the combined efforts of the Naboo, the Gungan Grand Army, and their other allies.[4]

Prior to the start of the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems[1] in 22 BBY,[4] Damask Holdings also established a base on the volcanic and mineral-rich Outer Rim Territories planet Mustafar. By around that time, they were one of several companies that wanted to exploit the world's mineral resources.[1]

Behind the scenes

In the current Star Wars canon, Damask Holdings was first mentioned in the seventeenth issue of the Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon magazine,[1] which was released around April 29, 2015.[6] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Damask Holdings originated in the 2012 novel Darth Plagueis, authored by James Luceno.[7]
