Cygnats were small biting pests native to the planet Thisspias[1] in the Expansion Region.[2] They could be deterred by dense hair, such as the beard of Thisspiasian Jedi Master Oppo Rancisis.[3] Almost two hundred years before the Galactic Civil War, a group of terrorists who assassinated the Blood Monarch of Thisspias wore something similar to a cygnat symbol. Because of that, when anti-monarchist abolitionist factions of Thisspiasians began wearing cygnat pins during the Galactic Civil War, it concerned even some moderate members of the species.[1]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, cygnats were first mentioned in the 2016 reference book Star Wars Character Encyclopedia: Updated and Expanded, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo.[3] The creatures originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were first mentioned in the 1999 reference book Star Wars: Episode I: The Visual Dictionary, which was written by David West Reynolds.[4]
