- "Heya. was making with the plunder this morning on thaere's old holonet nodes and found this. kinda thought everyone might wanna see it; went ahead and sliced the encryption for y'all too."
- ―Tiny.f, sharing on a Cularin holonet node forum a decrypted Thaereian military communication.
The Cularin holonet node was a HoloNet node in operation during the Clone Wars.
Description
- "Cularin holonet services hereby suspends this forum until further notice."
- ―holosrv, announcing the suspension of a Cularin holonet node form by Cularin holonet services
The Cularin holonet node was a HoloNet node associated with the Cularin system which featured a forum on which users could post messages. Posts on the holonet node recorded the time of the post and the user ID and node location of the poster. The organization Cularin holonet services had a role in the administration of the node.[1]
History
- "Hey. I held on to this for about two days, trying to figure out what to do with it. I was practicing decrypting and snagged this in transit from Almas to Coruscant. The encryption was good. Pretty snarled, in a standard kind of way. Not much of a thing to slice it."
- ―mstrslcr, posting on the Cularin holonet node
The holonet node was in operation during the Clone Wars. Around the time of Operation False Horizon, the slicer Tiny.f shared on a Cularin holonet node forum a decrypted message ostensibly obtained from a Thaereian military source that referenced a Thaereian plot to destabilize the Cularin system. A number of users posted replies that discussed the legitimacy of the evidence shared by Tiny.f and the implications of the supposed Thaereian scheme. The following day, Cularin holonet services intervened to close the forum and the user "holosrv" posted on the thread on their behalf to warn that the material circulated by Tiny.f potentially violated security rules and any individuals who continued to discuss it would be detained.[1]
A male Tarasin using the moniker "native4all" later posted on the node to describe his experiences during the Tarasin Revolt,[3] a conflict fought many years earlier on the planet Cularin between the native Tarasin and off-world corporations.[4]
Around this time, the user "mstrslcr" distributed on the Cularin holonet node an intercepted a report from an unspecified party transmitted from the[2] planet[4] Almas to the[2] galactic capital[5] Coruscant which appeared to call for intervention in the operation of Almas' Jedi academy. The contents of the message were widely debated and several users suggested that it was a hoax—the poster "tharestinx" speculated that the message was part of a plot by the Thaereian military, while the user "puesso" highlighted similarities in the syntax used in the report with Metatheran Cartel written documents. Cularin holonet services subsequently suspended the forum on security grounds.[2]
Following an unsuccessful request for aid by Lavina Wren, the Cularin system's senator, to the Galactic Senate, an article outlining her petition was circulated on Cularin's holonets.[6] On another occasion, an uncredited story was published on the Cularin holonet node in which a Thaereian military soldier called Nightwing killed his superior officer, Kulkis. Rumors soon emerged that the story was based on true events and was written by Osten Dal'Nay, a former member of the Thaereian military involved with the Cularin Militia. [7] Various theories were advanced by users of the holonet regarding the story, some considering it to be genuine and identifying Dal'Nay as Nightwing, while the user "critsym" criticized the literary worth of the story.[8]
Behind the scenes
The Cularin holonet node was first mentioned in the Star Wars Legends Wizards.com article Destabilization, which was written by Morrie Mullins and published on May 1, 2004 as a tie-in to RPGA's Living Force roleplaying campaign.[1] The holonet node was subsequently referenced in several further Living Force Wizards.com articles released across 2004 and 2005.[2][7][8]
