- "I have been told that a lightsaber I crafted some time ago has made its way to Almas, a gift from Master Windu to one of you. If it is the lightsaber I recall, I was pleased with the work, and I am glad to know that it is in hands that will use it wisely."
- ―Felanil Baaks
A Coruscani lightsaber was constructed on the city-planet Coruscant[1] by Duros Jedi artisan Felanil Baaks.[2] The Coruscani weapon had a single blue blade and a hilt encased in black, glass-like material through which its internal components could be seen.[1]
The lightsaber had come into the possession of Jedi Master Mace Windu of the Jedi High Council[1] by 31 BBY. In that year,[3] as thanks for their part in the safe delivery of a Sith artifact, the Pulas, to the Jedi Council on Coruscant and in place of another lightsaber recovered in doing so,[1] Windu gave the saber to a Jedi student[2] of the Cularin system's Almas Academy.[1] Later, in a lecture delivered to the academy population, Baaks remarked on his pride, both at his own craftsmanship of the weapon, and its current bearer's wisdom in its use.[2]
Behind the scenes
The Coruscani lightsaber first appeared in Coruscani Dawn, a 2002 Wizards of the Coast RPGA Star Wars Roleplaying Game scenario created by Morrie Mullins for the Celebration II event as part of the Living Force roleplaying campaign. While the lightsaber is only provided to Jedi player characters who successfully complete the scenario outside of Celebration II, as an alternative reward to an event-exclusive lightsaber constructed by Mace Windu,[1] the Coruscani lightsaber was confirmed in the Star Wars Legends continuity to have been received and used by a Jedi hero by the Wizards.com article "Felanil Baaks, Jedi Artisan."[2]
