Corellian sting-gnat

Corellian sting-gnats were a type of gnat that shared their name with Corellia,^[1] a Core Worlds planet.^[2] In 230 BBY,^[3] during the High Republic Era, the starship known as the Vessel traveled to the Echerta system^[1] in the Outer Rim^[4] in an attempt to make a faster journey to the Galactic Republic space station Starlight Beacon.^[1]

After arriving in the Echerta system, the Vessel came under attack by starships of the Nihil pirates. Jedi Master Elzar Mann—who was traveling aboard the Vessel—went to its cockpit to determine how much trouble they were in. Following his arrival into the cockpit, Mann looked outside of the Vessel and immediately regretted his decision to as he saw that the system was flooded with Nihil ships and that they swooped in each direction. He then mentally noted that they were like clouds of Corellian sting-gnats.^[1]

Behind the scenes

Corellian sting-gnats were mentioned in the 2022 novel The High Republic: The Fallen Star, written by Claudia Gray as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's^[1] Phase I.^[5]
