- «The Vagaari were severely beaten down the last time we met. Whatever's going on out there, I don't anticipate any major surprises.»
- ―Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo
Around 27 BBY,[3] the Chiss Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo, core name "Thrawn," severely beat the Vagaari pirates during his last confrontation with the Vagaari, ending his[2] Vagaari pirate operations.[1] In 18 BBY,[4] the Chiss Mid Captain Ufsa'mak'ro "Samakro" read the records of the confrontation and noticed that they were incomplete, speculating that the documents had been deliberately edited.[2]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, the confrontation with the Vagaari was mentioned in the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good, the second volume of Timothy Zahn's Ascendancy Trilogy.[2] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Devastation[5] was first mentioned in Zahn's 1991 novel Heir to the Empire, the first installment of Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy.[6] It was identified as the Devastation in the author's 2004 novel Survivor's Quest.[5] The Devastation appeared in Zahn's 2006 novel Outbound Flight.[7]
