This article is about the Death Star II's northern command sector. You may be looking for its southern counterpart, Command Sector (South).

Command Sector North was an area along the equatorial trench within the second Death Star.[4]

Description

The command sector's area ran along the Death Star II's equatorial trench. It consisted of hangars, an armory, a conference room, access to the shafts of one of the superlaser's tributary laser streams, and control stations for the station's tractor beam along with the sector's weapons systems. The hangars were used to dock TIE fighters and Lambda-class T-4a shuttles. The command sector also had several Super Blaster 920 laser cannons and "Tulip" style Imperial work stations.[4] Its southern counterpart was Command Sector South.[5]

History

The command sector was constructed between 0 and 4 ABY, and was located along the Death Star II's equatorial trench.[4]

During the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, when the Alliance to Restore the Republic attacked the Death Star II, a Rebel CR90 corvette captained by Major Shin would be shot down and crash-land in one of the command sector's hangars. After the crash, Major Shin led the surviving Rebel passengers in a fight through the command center to sabotage its systems and commandeer a shuttle to escape the battle station, in which they would be opposed by Imperial forces under the command of Colonel Brenna.[4] R2-Q5, an Imperial astromech droid stationed in the sector, would desert and assist the rebels in their raid.[6]

The rebels first gained ground by overriding the battle station's tractor beam generator and control stations. They prioritized sabotaging the controls to the sector's turbolaser turrets and tributary laser stream, assuring that even if they were not to escape, they could at least lighten the enemy fire upon the rest of the Rebellion. Overriding controls to another hangar and its shuttle bay elevator, Shin and his troops successfully secured a Lambda-class T-4a shuttle and escaped. Brenna would engage with Shin's reorganized forces at Endor, both in orbit and at Research Station 9.[4]

The command sector would be destroyed shortly after; the Millennium Falcon and Red Leader attacked the Death Star II's hypermatter reactor and caused it to explode, destroying the entire battle station.[7]

Command Sector North appears in Star Wars Battlefront II as a map for Galactic Assault, Heroes vs. Villains, Hero Showdown, Supremacy, Co-Op Missions, Blast, Instant Action, and Arcade. Its appearance in Galactic Assault features an overall story in which during the Battle of Endor, a Rebel Alliance CR90 corvette crash-landed in Command Sector North. After the crash, the surviving Rebel passengers led by Major Shin engaged in a skirmish with Imperial forces under the command of Colonel Brenna. The first phase of the game involves the Rebels overriding the battle station's tractor beam generator and control stations. The second phase then includes shutting down the Death Star II's main weapons and superlaser controls, while the third phase consists of overriding controls to a hangar and its shuttle bay elevator in order to secure a shuttle to escape with. The Imperial players are tasked with stopping the Rebels while they attempt to take these objectives. If the Rebels win, they are shown flying away in a Lambda-class shuttle while the Death Star explodes behind them. If the Imperials win, they are shown capturing the Rebels and securing the command sector.[4]

The droid R2-Q5 cameos in the Command Sector North map.[4] His 2018 Topps Star Wars Galactic Files card states he "perform[ed] duties for the Rebel Alliance during the second Death Star raid",[6] affirming that the general events of the Rebel skirmish through the command sector seen in Galactic Assault and his presence there are canonical.

Continuity

In Battlefront II, Command Sector North is shown to be along the equatorial trench,[4] however, in the Star Wars: Card Trader app, it is shown on the Death Star II blue prints to be towards the top of battlestation.[5]
