The Clan Groogrun vibro-ax was a model of crude vibro-ax manufactured by Snogrutt, a master weaponsmith from Clan Groogrun.
Description
The vibro-axs were crude weapons, made by the weaponsmith Snogrutt of the Gamorrean Groogrun clan. The shaft of the vibro-ax was constructed of wood, topped by a hollowed axe head that contained the weapon's ultrasonic generator and power cell. The generator allowed the axe head to vibrate thousands of times a second, making it more deadly than an unpowered axe. Due to this design, the ultrasonic generator transferred a significant amount of vibration, making them difficult to wield in combat for species without great strength such as Gamorreans.[1]
History
The nine Gamorrean guards who served Jabba the Hutt as bodyguards insisted on arming themselves with Clan Groogun vibro-axs despite better weapons being available. The guards would often use the vibro-axs unpowered in an effort to demonstrate their strength, although many in Jabba's Palace believed they simply forgot to turn them on before combat in their excitement for battle.[1]
The vibro-axes were used to little effect when fighting Luke Skywalker during the Battle of the Great Pit of Carkoon, as the Jedi's lightsaber effortlessly cut through their axes.
