- "Galactic Exploitation wants my family's share of the miners' cooperative?
That's right. You sign your share over to GET, then GET pays me, and your debt is settled. Simple." - ―Omad Kaeg and Scarn, on the Qreph brother's attempt to acquire Kaeg's share in the miners' support cooperative
A miners' support cooperative operated in the Chiloon Rift nebula during the era of the Galactic Alliance. In 45 ABY, the Columi businessmen Craitheus and Marvid Qreph unsuccessfully attempted to force the tug captain Omad Kaeg to transfer over to them his founder's share in the cooperative.
Description
- "All I know is, the bosses want to join your little co-op. Maybe they're worried one of their yachts will need to be rescued or repaired or something."
"Then they can pay for an associate membership. I'm not giving you a founder's share. I'd be run out the Rift." - ―Scarn and Omad Kaeg, on the Qreph brothers' desire to join the miners' cooperative
A miners' support cooperative operated in the Chiloon Rift, a resource-rich nebula[1] in Wild Space.[2] Individuals holding founder's shares in the cooperative held rights regarding the organization's operation and also could receive representation on the RiftMesh Committee, the body that oversaw the nebula's RiftMesh communications network. Associate membership of the cooperative was also available for those lacking a founder's share.[1]
History
- "The support cooperative gave up trying to extend the RiftMesh into the Bubble more than a hundred years ago. The beacons kept drifting out of range of each other, no matter how many the repair crews placed."
- ―Omad Kaeg, on the cooperative's failed attempt to extend the RiftMesh to the Bubble of the Lost
Sometime before 55 BBY,[3] the cooperative attempted to expand the RiftMesh into the Bubble of the Lost, a region in the heart of the Chiloon Rift that surrounded a monolith of unknown origin. However, the space-time-warping properties of the monolith prevented the RiftMesh from functioning in the region by causing the repeater beacons that supported the network to drift out of position.[1]
Lando Calrssian, the Sarnus Refinery owner who met Omar Kaeg via the miners' support cooperative
During the era of the Galactic Alliance, the asteroid tug captain Omad Kaeg controlled a family founder's share in the co-operative. Through his work with the cooperative, Kaeg became familiar with the operator of the Chiloon Rift's Sarnus Refinery, Lando Calrissian. In 45 ABY, the Columi businessmen Craitheus and Marvid Qreph, the leaders of the corporation Galactic Exploitation Technologies, sent the Mandalorian mercenary Scarn to coerce Kaeg into transferring his share over to them to settle a gambling debt. Kaeg resisted and he and Calrissian subsequently speculated that the Columi wanted to join the co-operative so as to influence the decisions of the RiftMesh committee and ensure their hidden operation in the Chiloon Rift remained concealed.[1]
Following the detainment by the new Jedi Order of Dena Yus, an employee of Calrissian and spy for the Qrephs, the Jedi sought the miners' co-operative's consent to take Yus away to stand trial before the Jedi Council.[1]
Behind the scenes
The miners' support cooperative was mentioned in the 2013 Star Wars Legends novel Crucible, written by Troy Denning.[1]

- ↑ Crucible states that the unsuccessful attempt to expand the RiftMesh to the Bubble of the Lost occurred over one hundred years prior to the events of the novel. Since Crucible is set in 45 ABY, this places the failed RiftMesh expansion effort to before 55 BBY.
