Ceramic shielding was a material that could be added to a starship's hold to protect its systems from ionized cargo. However, it could not protect computer systems from ionic discharges.[1]
In 3 ABY,[2] the Miyuki Trade League installed ceramic shielding in Kay Vess's EML-850 light freighter, the Trailblazer, to allow her to smuggle ion related cargo, such as the ion weapons favored by the Ashiga Clan.[1]
Behind the scenes
Ceramic shielding first appeared in the canon continuity in the "A Pirate's Fortune" expansion for the Massive Entertainment video game Star Wars Outlaws,[1] which was released on May 15, 2025.[3] In the expansion, players are awarded with the "Ion dampening hold" upgrade when talking with Reess Passik after completing the quest "No Prey, No Pay". The upgrade allowed them to take smuggling contracts to transport ion weapons.[1]
