"What can you tell me about the capupi flies?"
"They are very important pollinators! You'll see swarms of the flies all over the jungle. The capupi fly's meal of choice is the flowers of the asuka trees. After ingesting the flowers they secrete a kind of oil that is highly valuable."
"Really? What can it do, is it like bacta or is it like a perfume?"
"Funny enough the locals believe the secretion of the capupi flu can help you see into the future!"
―Kay Vess to researcher[1]

Capupi flies were a species of insect found on the Outer Rim Territories planet Akiva. They were important pollinators on the planet. Capupi flies would secrete a type of oil after ingesting the flowers of the asuka trees that was considered quite valuable for its supposed ability to let people see into the future. Despite asuka tree flowers being their meal of choice the flies could sometimes be found inside of kurado fruit also found on Akiva.[1]

In 3 ABY[2], the scoundrel Kay Vess and her Merqaal companion Nix share a kurado fruit platter at the Zian street food stall in Myrra. When the cooking droid cut open the fruit fro the pair several Capupi flies few out from the fruit. Nix enjoyed eating the flies.[1]

Behind the scenes

Capupi flies appeared for the 2024 video game, Star Wars Outlaws, developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. The flies are described in a conversation the player can have with a researcher in the Stormhollow region of the planet. They are depicted as part of the optional "Galactic Street Food" activity in Myrra city. The game uses the same model to depict the capupi flies as the ya-ya flies despite describing them as unique species of fly.[1]
