"One time a rathtar broke out of the Lonisa City Zoo and I used the Force to calm it down while we healed its injuries. I brought it back to the temple, but Master Eicho didn't let me keep it."
"Yeah, he passed out. Then the rathtar tried to eat him. It was hilarious."
―Tep Tep and Kildo, to Ram Jomaram[1]

Bubbles was a rathtar that lived in the Lonisa City Zoo on the Outer Rim planet Valo during the High Republic Era. By 230 BBY, Bubbles became injured and broke out of the zoo, encountering the Jedi younglings Kildo, Gavi Takitaken, and Tep Tep. After Tep Tep used the Force to calm Bubbles down as the Jedi healed its injuries, she brought the rathtar back with her to the Valo Jedi temple.

While Bubbles was in the temple, Jedi Master Eicho saw the rathtar and passed out, and it attempted to eat him. After the incident, Eicho spoke harshly to the youngling about bringing Bubbles to the temple and told her that she could not keep it. In 229 BBY, Kildo and Tep Tep told Jedi Padawan Ram Jomaram about Bubbles.

Biography

"I would never have let Bubbles eat him!"
"Master Eicho didn't know that. The rathtar was six meters tall and could barely fit through the temple door."

The rathtar Bubbles lived in the Lonisa City Zoo within Lonisa City on the Outer Rim planet Valo during the High Republic Era.[1] At one point by 230 BBY,[2] Bubbles became injured and broke out of the zoo. After breaking out of the zoo, the rathtar encountered three Jedi younglings: the Alcedians Kildo and Tep Tep, and the human[1] Gavi Takitaken.[3] As the younglings healed its injuries, Tep Tep[1]—who had a special Force connection to animals[4]used the Force to calm Bubbles down. Once the rathtar was healed, Tep Tep brought Bubbles back with her to the Valo Jedi temple, though the rathtar was barely able to fit through the temple's door as a result of its size.[1]

While in the Jedi temple, Bubbles was seen by Jedi Master Eicho who went into shock and passed out. The rathtar tried to eat the Jedi, but ultimately did not eat Eicho. After the incident, the Master spoke harshly to Tep Tep about bringing Bubbles to the temple and refused to let her keep the rathtar. As Eicho recovered from his shock, he canceled his meditation lessons with the three younglings for two weeks. In retaliation to how the Master had spoken to his friend about the incident with Bubbles, Kildo put a spotted spider in Eicho's bag when he returned to the temple after his recovery, causing the Master to have to leave the temple to recover again.[1]

In 229 BBY,[2] when the three younglings introduced themselves to Jedi Padawan Ram Jomaram, Tep Tep and Kildo recalled the incident with Bubbles and Eicho, which Kildo felt had been hilarious. Tep Tep stated that she would not have let the rathtar eat the Jedi Master, to which Kildo noted that Eicho had not know that.[1] In 228 BBY,[5] when Force-consuming Nameless creatures were set loose on the Galactic Republic Elite-class vessel Innovator, Tep Tep suggested that she could try talking to them. In response, Jomaram noted the creatures were not a rathtar, reminding her[6] of Bubbles,[1] and that the Nameless only destroyed.[6]

Personality and traits

"This is Tep Tep. She's great with creatures of all kinds, especially the big carnivorous ones."
"They're just so cute."
―Kildo and Tep Tep, to Ram Jomaram[1]

Bubbles stood six meters tall, barely being able to fit through the Valo Jedi temple's door due to its size. When the rathtar came across Jedi Master Eicho, Bubbles tried to eat him. While a member of a carnivorous[1] species,[7] Tep Tep considered Bubbles cute.[1]

  2. 2.0 2.1 The events of The High Republic: Escape from Valo take place one year after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, which equates to 229 BBY per Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia. The novel establishes that the attack on Valo—in which all of the Valo Temple's Jedi Masters, save for Kunpar Vasivola, died on Valo—took place one year before, meaning Eicho must have passed away in 230 BBY. Therefore, the incident with Bubbles must have taken place by that year.

  5. Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic: Temptation of the Force takes place one year and six weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. Since The High Republic: Beware the Nameless takes place one year and six months after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, its events must be set in 228 BBY as well.
