Brass was an artificial metal, a copper-zinc alloy that contained up to 40% zinc. Its color ranged from yellow to red. Brass not only resisted corrosion, but it was also a good conductor of electricity and heat. It was used for bed frames, etching, jewelry, and stamping.[2] Fancy objects made of brass ranged from plates[3] to sliding doors.[4] The first models of Lovolan's R-10 household droid were decorated with antique brass fittings; later, more subdued, modules, only had a decorative brass rail. The TT-8L/XSS droid was plating in antique brass. Both droids saw extensive use on the resort moon Hesperidium.[5]
"Brass" was also a term for commanding officers.
