For other uses, see Folly.

Bondara's Folly was a lightsaber crystal that shared its name with Twi'lek Jedi Master Anoon Bondara. A unique crystal, it caused the lightsaber blade to give off a light-brown color. When tuned by a Force-sensitive, it became a focusing crystal and was only usable in that particular individual's lightsaber. Sometime after the Battle of Yavin, during the Galactic Civil War, a spacer collected and combined various crystal fragments from across the galaxy to produce Bondara's Folly.

Properties

Bondara's Folly was a brown lightsaber crystal that caused the blade of a lightsaber to take on a light-brown hue. When properly tuned by a Force-sensitive for use in a lightsaber, it became a focusing crystal and could only be used in lightsabers constructed by the individual who tuned it.[1]

History

Bondara's Folly was a unique lightsaber crystal and shared its name with Anoon Bondara,[1] a Twi'lek Jedi Master who was regarded as one of the finest fighters and lightsaber duel instructors in the Jedi Order around the time of the Battle of Naboo.[3]

This section of the article assumes 100% game completion of Star Wars Galaxies. Any alternate stories may be noted in the "Behind the scenes" section. The events in this section may or may not have been confirmed as canon within the Star Wars Legends continuity.

Sometime after the Battle of Yavin, during the Galactic Civil War, a spacer began collecting disparate crystal fragments from various planets across the galaxy—some rare, some mundane—and combined them to form rarer crystal shards. Once having collected all the various shards, the spacer combined them to form Bondara's Folly.[1]

Behind the scenes

Bondara's Folly appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[4] When used in the player's lightsaber, the crystal caused a portion of the inflicted damage to be of the acid type, and once tuned, the crystal could only be used by that player.[1]

Bondara's Folly was part of a series of 19 unique lightsaber color crystals created in the context of the Publish 9's Jedi system revamp[5] in June 2004.[6] However, only one of those crystals — Sunrider's Destiny — was made available in the game.[7] Bondara's Folly and the other crystals were not introduced in the game at that time.[8][9] Bondara's Folly was eventually added to the game with the release of the Chapter 7 on November 1, 2007,[10] as one of four possible rewards from a series of in-game collections. This particular series of collections required the player to collect various crystal fragments of different types—which could be found as loot from a wide variety of enemies in the game—and combine them with each other. Doing so produced a single shard required for another series of four collections. Once all of the second set of shards were collected, the player could choose as a reward either the crystal or one of four bracelets used for protection against various damage types.[11] A few years later, the Hotfix 21.3 added "raids" to the game, causing high-level creatures to attack various cities and settlements in the game.[12] On October 20, 2011, the Hotfix 21.4 added the possibility of obtaining rare loot items for enemies during these raids,[13] including Bondara's Folly.[1]

  2. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
